Definite answer to thread size?

I have received several varying answers to thread size on the shift ****.
Some say it's 5/8, others have told me it 16mm x 1.5 & others have said it is 3/4-16!!!!!
So please which it is?????

Why?

Because I want a Hurst White shift **** ball and Hurst says Chevy varied the thread size all over the place when it came to the 89 Z-28. That's why.

Take you current **** to Home Depot. They should have a display with bolts of various sizes that you can test thread in onto.
