1993-1997 Camaro Z28 M6 Ashtray Spring lol

Hi all,

My OCD is getting the better of me, and after replacing the ashtray insert and lid, I no longer have the spring that came with the original lid. I've contacted a handful of places with no luck.

Does anyone have any specs on this spring so I can fabricate it? Or if anyone still has one, could take a picture/measurements so I can make one?

So much horsepower increase from this spring, gotta have it 😂

Thanks,

Thanks,
Eric,

From my car-model days of long ago, I made door "latches" for my mini dream machines with a small square of soup-can steel, epoxied to the door. Then I stuck a small magnet to the steel, and made a small "nest" of epoxy to hold the magnet, and closed the door. When the epoxy was fully set, I had a nice latch at the right height and angle for the magnet to engage the door perfectly. If you need "stiffer" epoxy to mount the magnet higher, just mix the epoxy with very fine wood sawdust (from fine sandpaper, not from a saw) to make epoxy "mud." Let the magnet/epoxy set up on a small mound of this "mud" while the magnet is stuck to the steel, with the door closed. Neodymium magnets can be had in many small sizes.

"Click."

That's a great idea. I didn't think about engineering a magnetic latch assembly, that would probably be pretty clean. I've got various types of epoxies for such things like DP 100 etc.

Looks like they want too much money for the spring on Ebay, I'll take some measurements, and when I'm back home again next week I'll see about fabricating one - then test its form/fit/function. If it doesn't jive I'll certainly use your idea, that's just awesome ty!
