Went out this weekend and was spraying, broke something in the tranny. The car now doesn't want to shift out of second gear. Finally, gets out of 2nd gear when I slow down or speed up really fast. If you floor it it just screams through first and goes straight to 6500 in second and stays there. Only has problem in second, wandering what I broke. Someone told me that it was a sprag and if so what is that? Or what else could it be. Would appreciate any responses.

 

Did you check the kickdown solenoid and/or the shift linkage?

If they check out then you probably damaged a planetary assembly or band.

 

What transmission?

 

My fault it's a 4l60e in a 93 Trans Am.

 

Are you sure its a 4L60E? How are you controlling it electronically, or have you upgraded to a 94+ PCM??????

 

i own a 93. its definately a 700R4. im having problems too(118,000miles with LOTS of track time). my problem is with second also. i think its the converter though. if i hit it around 55-60mph it studders alot, still pulls but studders big time. its like the convertor has problems locking up or something ireally dont know. oh it also wont go into 4th at WOT, ive gone 5800 rpm in third. any ideas, besides getting a new one?
