Re: My Big Block into a 4th Gen install journal...

Sent some more pics to Anthony today. As you will see, the headers are in as are the spark plugs and all I have to do with the wires is cut the proper length and put on the boots for the distributor end. The water pump is in and ready to go. Once the plug wires are done and all of the electrical is tied down I wil lbe ready to put the radiator in. Then the very last thing will be running the new fuel line.

There is also a pic that shows the ground clearance with the 2 inch headers. It's not too bad considering my car is dropped 2 inches!

Here are the pics everyone. Looks like it's coming together nicely. I can't wait to hear it. Have you decided what you're gonna do for an exhaust yet.....dumps or a Mufflex out the rear?

Damn that Rat motor sits tight.

I would use platinum tip plugs for sure.

You've got more ***** than I've got.

Get 'er done.

What header brand and model did you end up using?

Re: My Big Block into a 4th Gen install journal...

Used a plain jane Hooker header. It fits about 100 models of GM big blocks! It's like a 1970 Monte Carlo/Chevelle header with a 2'' primary and 3'' collector.

Sorry about the lack of updates. I was sick and unable to work on the car for about a week. I'll get some udates in this week.

Re: My Big Block into a 4th Gen install journal...

Well, we made lots of progress this past Sunday. We fabbed up the whole fuel system. We took the fuel tank cap (that's connected to the float and plastic tank that holds the pump) and drilled a hole and welded on a 1/2 to -8AN fitting. Then, we ran a 1/2 ich steel pipe which we had to bend, down to the tank bottom. Then, from the 8AN fitting we ran our line and connected our pump and filter. Then we ran the rest of the line down the drivers side frame and connected to the carb.

Bottom line is the car is not totally finished, but the motor is going to be started this Sunday! Obviously it's been a long time coming and I can't wait to hear it.

All I have to do now is install the starter and wires and the radiator and this baby will be ready to go! Once she runs with no problems I will have to buy the driveshaft and then it will be on the road!!! I'm pumped!! I've got to head out to Summit to pick up two mufflers......I can't wait.

I will try to capture this with a camcorder. But, I do not know how to post videos so I'm not sure what to do with it once I have it. If anyone has an idea let me know how to do it!!

I'll talk to you guys on Sunday and update you!!!

Can't wait Jerry, I know I'll be excited to hear it. You can post video's in the video section on this site and then just link them to this thread. If not let me know and I'll do it.

All right. I'm going to just have two old school glasspak header mufflers on it for now so it ought to sound downright mean!!

Sorry guys we have a couple little wiring issues to work out and then we'll be starting the car. I'll be back to post in a day or two when we fire it.

Well, guys I got the car fired up on Monday. It sounds amazing!! I tried to video it but the sound was just all distorted. I am going to take my fathers camcorder over and try to tape it because he has a much better camcorder.

The thing actually lived up to my expectations. I can't believe it. All I need now is a drive shaft!

Congrats Jerry!!!! It's always great to hear when someone puts a lot of work into something and it pays off in the end. Can't wait to hear it.

One important thing to pass on. If you cut the cowl correctly you can, CAN service the distributor with the motor in the car. It's tight but it can be removed.

I can pull my distributor out with my 454 BBC in my 95Z. I just have to take the cap off first then pull the rest. Nice looking set up there jerrysta.

Yep. You're right waldt, just take off that cap and you can just barely slide it out. Kind of a pain but no harder than any other LT1 related repair that I had to do before. Plus I can replace all all the plugs with no problem. Just need a swivel for the ratchet.

It's been a long road putting this thing together but at least the thought of maintenance is not too bad!
