You didn't have to make another hole for shifter placement? I'm having problems getting measurements for engine to shifter and bellhousing to shifter. I'm trying to run a LS1 T56 and a McLeod bellhousing but I'm worried about shifter placement.

Mcleod has a new shifter called the Slick Stick. it allows all different kind of shifter configurations including Mid-Mount locations.

I'm just using a plain old quarter stick. My builder does not think there will be any kind of problem. His idea sounds like there is some flexibilty with that shifter.

I'm waiting on an engine stabililizer kit from thunder racing. Then it's time to hook everything up!

Re: My Big Block into a 4th Gen install journal...

Well, we figured out the pulleys and stuff over the weekend. We bought a customer mount and reversed it and mounted it right on the plate on the passenger side. It just clears the steering rack.

We also figured out the headers. It took a lot of work to make them fit....we had to cut the passenger floor and clearance it some for the header to clear, and we had to cut a little piece of the frame on the drivers side and also bang in one of the primaries a little bit to get it to clear. And this is all with a manual rack. So, I would think power steering would have to have customer headers.

Also, my builder installed the engine stabilizer bar in a way so that the headers can be removed without disconnecting that brace. I'll try to get Brady some more pics if he doesn't mind posting them again for me.

Sunday we are putting in the whole fuel system. I went out to Summit yesterday and bought all of the parts (pump, filter, regulator, fittings.) After that's done I can hear my engine run at least!!!

You will save yourself a lot of time and headaches with that k-member. We had to weld mounts for the rack on to it and grind the old rack fittings off. Also notched it in the back for the headers to clear.

Good luck!

Re: My Big Block into a 4th Gen install journal...

Does the distributor go in the front or back? If it's in the back, not good. I don't think it could be serviced without pulling or moving the motor out.

I noticed in the summit catalog they now sell edelbrock victor intake manifolds meant for fuel injection. I don't know if the fuel injection setup is worth the extra cost over a carb though.

Doesn't anyone, like hooker, sell headers for this application? If they don't, they should.

Re: My Big Block into a 4th Gen install journal...

Personally I think FI is better than carb, but that's just IMHO. I'm planning on running FAST XFI with my setup and a dual sync dist.

Dist is in the back and actually I think that it can clear the cowl IIRC. If not you can always drop the k-member to do it. Just like when you R&R the oil pan on these cars.

AFAIK there is nobody that sells off the shelf headers for the conversion, but there are a few that are close and can be made to work. Not many people do these conversions. I know of 2 that have actually done it and 3 including myself that are in the process of doing it. The funny thing is that the motor/tranny is the easy part, it's the headers, accesories and clearance issues that cause the headaches because you are always having to beat on something or shave something here or there to get it to fit right.

Re: My Big Block into a 4th Gen install journal...

Guy, I haven't seen Brady post in this thread for a while so I sent some pics to ulakovic22, who offered to put them up. Hopefully they will be here today sometime. All three pics are of the distributor. You can see that it is in the back and the cowl had to be cut for clearance underneath. It's a crab style distributor too so that cowl is going to have to be cut no matter what. I guess unless you run a crank trigger or something like that.

Not too worried about having to service it as I've had good luck with MSD in the past. If I do it will be a pain but there are plenty of horrible repairs on the car as they sit with the LT1 anyway. So, I'll cross my fingers!!

This weekend I'll send some more pics that show the headers in the car and the car sitting on the ground.
