Hey need some opinions

I dont know if this belongs here but I didnt get any response in the ls1 section. I have a 96 TransAm and I want a 8 sec car my mods are in the sig. Im looking for opinions on the motor I have been searching and I came up with a 408 forged bottom end 12.5-13.0 comp ET 240+ heads a solid roller w/shaft system full fuel system and a victor jr with a carb or elbow to stay fuel injected plus a 250-300 shot of nitrous. thanks for any info Joe

I think he's asking if that's enough. I'm not sure how much power it takes to get into the 8's but just get yourself a good nitrous setup and if 300 isn't enough spray 500.

Things that will help figure this out:

How much power are you/will you be making?
Race weight?
What size rubber?

This question gets asked here from time to time and usually, most people don't like the answer(s) they get. It's a TALL,TALL order to build an LT-x based motor that normally aspirated, will make 600-700fwhp, let alone rwhp. Not saying that it can't be done, but you are going to need a real fat wallet to make that happen. Sorry, just noticed you are looking to do this with an LS-x. It would be a little more feasible, but you are going to need the best of everything. An 8 second car that can be driven on the street will require more maintenance than most people are willing to do and all that HP will in most instances will be unusable, not to mention the long list of necessary suspension/chassis mods that will need to take place to support that kind of power. Moreover, the tuning, expecially with n2o, will need to be spot on. An 8 second track car will require a minimum of a 10 point rollcage, window net, 5-point harness, parachute, chassis certification, nomex drivers suit with gloves, shoes, helmet and neck brace, competition driver's license, etc. etc. As you can see the list of required expensive, exotic engine parts, required supporting modifications to the car in order to support that kind of HP and the necessary safety items add up in a hurry.

Let's say you can get your car's weight down to 3200 lbs. (No small task with a 4th gen F-body) and using a very crude ET/HP calculator, you will need to be making roughly 850 hp to run 9.00 @ 150 mph. An 8.00 pass will require somewhere over 1200 hp. Just my .02. I'm sure some others will chime in as well.

If you have to ask what it would take then just forget it.

I want alot of thing too.....If you just want to go fast...then buy a race car allready built. Look at all the guys that have been impressive over the years...where are they now? In debt......MIA.....

Slow down a little man, use more punctuation and it would be easier to understand what your saying.

I don't see you getting 600rwhp with those heads, and you still haven't said what cam your using.

If boosted thinks you need 1200hp, you better go ahead and plan on a 600 shot. That should get you there. I hope your chassis is up to it.

I replied to about 3 PMs from this guy along with answering his question in the LS1 Tech section. You can shut this one down if you want, Fred.
