First gen SBC heads on an LT1???

I just got an amazing deal on a set of HVH 23 degree race heads and I was wandering if it would be at all possible to convert them to the revuse flow coolent system to work on my LT1. The heads are 69cc 2.08/1.65s, fully ported and flow around 330s on the intake and mid 200s on the exhaust. I would really like to use these heads and the intake bolt differance is no big deal sence I will probibly have to go with a sheet metal intake cause the stock LT1 intake doesnt have enough material to it to port match to these heads. If anyone has any info please post. Thanks very much!

Going to from SBC to LT1 may be harder than the LT1 to SBC. I know thirdgen.org has a lot of guys using LT1 heads on SBC motors, but I haven't heard of the opposite. couldn't hurt to check it out.

You might actually have better luck with this on LT1 Engine Tech.... there are people there running Gen 1 heads on the LT1.

I've heard of people doing it. Guess it wouldn't be a bad idea. Since they would retain heat better than aluminum heads.

hey can you send me info on it too? mreff555@hotmail.com

You can get the conversion done for around $250 so it's not bad at all. PM me if you want to know who I would recommend.

Take care,

I ran some converted Brodix -10 heads on my car until they broke this year. Conversion is not that bad if the shop knows what to do. Weld up coolant passages on the intake side. Add oil drainback holes, open new passages on the engine side, and open holes in the back side for the crossover tube. Machine the intake and deck sides flat.

we were not even going to fill the holes on the intake side with my Brodix 18- heads Instead of drilling the heads for the air bleed I was using back water passages

Not that hard if a good shop does it

Till what broke? The heads? Related to the conversion?

Re: First gen SBC heads on an LT1???

It's a long story. After a lot of trouble, I had everything working correctly and my car was running quite well. One of the valve seats broke, sending a piece into the combustion chamber. It dinged a piston and the head a little. The heads are easily repairable, but I need a new valve and I'd definitely want new seats. I decided to go back to the stock castings and I freshened the stock bottom end with new rings and bearings (and a new piston).

I had visions of fixing the heads and putting them on a new shortblock with a Victor EFI manifold. They would make some serious power. After the money I've spent though, I'm not going to use them. I even had a stainless y-pipe made to go with the headers. If anyone wants the whole kit (heads, springs, ARP studs, modified headers (ASM/RKSport midlength),braided stainless crossover tube, etc., I'll let them go for an insanely good price, just to get them out of the way.
