I'm talking about sportsman racing at it's finest. It's not your normal bracket
race engine, and it defiantly not cheap. It is the kind of stuff that makes people
stand at attention. A high winding LS based injected small block.

Here's a gen. 1 example from a local racer

Craig Bourgeois, Metairie, La., dragster, A/ND, 6.870, -0.630

w/16:1 CR = 872 peak HP 8900-9000, ...almost 188 mph 7.103 ET bad air

That is way cool. But a very important parameter is to be able to expect at least a season (125-150 passes) w/o major maintainence. Up front cost is less of an issue than reliability/consistency. I know I sound as if I am contrdicting myself, because clearly the best combo for that would be a very large displacement BBC. And I don't want that because "everyone" has one.

Rich,
It's so easy spending someone else's time and money.

Sooner or later reality sets in and we become rational. In the mean
time it's fun to look at the possibilities.

Bracket race programs are track specific. Some locations have plenty of fast
door cars and they go that route. Other locations would have a difficult time
fielding 8 fast bracket race door cars.

No body is talking that I owned any car. I said I wrenched on it and was there when it was in the 10's and there when it was in the 8's.

YOU need to talk to John 'cause ya don't have your stories straight.

Just some more of your babble.

I may be "Rich", but not rich. However, I can and have spent a good amount on various car projects over the years. This project will have a total budget of perhaps $35,000-40,000 assuming I find a good, used chassis. I do have a good tranny and an engine management system that will come off my 27T. I also have a set of wheels and some "little" stuff like fuel pumps, rockers, lifters, etc. that I may be able to use. Looking to spend maybe $10-15,000 on the motor, a similar amount on a "roller" chassis and leave $5-10K for the "little" stuff.

Rich (not rich)

Didn't read all the suggestions, so I apologize if someone has already said this... but I'd love to see what you could do with the new LSX block.

I am very much considering that. Probably the LSX iron block, if that's what you mean.

Ok Mobile boys, let's CALM DOWN!!!!!!! Not the time or place.

Rich, how much is the F1R kit anyways? I'm not a ProCharger dealer but I could easily see that LT1 setup ready to run being well below $15K with that. All you need is the F1R unit, ECU, TB and Headers.

For a BBC to match a blown LT1/SBC it would take some bucks. (1000hp+ @ 23psi)

A 1000hp 18° 565hp Big Chief from ReherMorrison is $18,500. If I was looking and wasn't an engine builder that's where I would get a BBC from. You still would have to adapt your EFI system over to that motor as well.

RPM is going to be a parts killer so boost or cubes is really the only answer here.

I know dick about the Kinsler Alcohol stuff but the guy I bought my ALL Pro heads from said it was junk and holding them back. They dynoed with the Kinsler Stack set-up at about 700hp and around 740 with a single dominator, both on alcohol.

This was a 360 SBC for a sprint car.

Reher-Morrison would be where I would look. I think they are selling EFI motors now. Of course it would be a BBC.

Why no Mopar? Or "New" Hemi?? You can get stroker kits to make the new hemi's a 426, heads are crazy and forged parts are available. They are really hindered in the power out put due to stock PCM abortions. Not a concern in your arena.

I mean this.

I was thinking somewhere in the 450ci range with a big Procharger and a couple of heat exchangers in front of it.
