Engine choice for fast bracket/Quick 8/16 car

I am thinking about a project and would like any opinions or thoughts people might have. Looking to run ~7.50 in an ~2000lb car (with driver) with great reliability and consistency. I figure this will need in the range of 900-1,000hp. I prefer to run alcohol and I also want to be different. I definitely will run EFI, I hate carbs. I thought about a big NA BBC but also have a fascination with forced induction and have settled on two major options to consider. An LS based motor or a BBC with a centrifugal blower, or perhaps a turbo.

Any thoughts?

Rich

A 632 inch big block, Dart 360 heads, solid roller, cast manifold, single dominator, or a Rons toilet setup......should make over 1000 with NOOOO problem. n/a of course.

So now I know why you are looking at the motor! That with a F1R would be a good choice.

Other than that....

402 LS motor with Prepped L92 heads and a F1R would do the job as well. If you are worried about the block, a 6.0L iron truck block instead of a LS2 block would do the job. Either way I would still stick with a centrifigal since the power delievery of a turbo could easily be too much for a car that light.

Why not try out the new LSX blocks? You could build a 468 or so without much trouble and supercharge that.

Ls1 with 8 ram tubes sticking through the hood will get it done.

I would say 900/1000 out of 400CID is exceeding the magic 2HP per cubic inch. It would have to be built like a Sherman tank with ALL the best pieces.
It's not impossible but in my opinion it would be a high maintenance item.

Might want to think 'bout mo inches.

Yeah 950-1000hp would get you the mid 180's which is enough to go 7.5's.

What car do you have that's 2000lbs?

It would be beneficial to know what kind've car we're dealing with so that we have an idea of what kind've engine compartment space we'll have to work with before we go off into La-La-Land with the engine suggestions, but I see Rich is ignoring me so I won't waste my time.

I am going to have a chassis built. Something in the range of 130-140" wheelbase in a Top Dragster style. I'd step up with my existing 27T but the WB is only 110" and the thing is ancient - not sure I want to trust my one and only corporeal self to a chassis that old, though it has never been bent. But in any case, 175-180mph is too damn quick on a 110" WB. It feels fine at 150, not sure I want to try it at 180.

BIG inch NA is the most logical, but I want something "different". EFI will be part of it, but I am not sure if just big inch NA with EFI will be different enough to satisfy me. Keep the ideas coming!

mdacton: are you selling that motor? I might consider it.
