advanced missfire
if your engine is running fine in first gear but not 2,3,4 I am gonna guess you have an auto trans and that you have a prob with the trans and not the engine. does your engine idle and rev fine in park or N? your engine is not going to only have problems in a select gear and not the rest your engine will have problems a any given rpm no veh speed.
Re: advanced missfire
sylvrls1=> thank you very much for your reply....however it is a standard transmission. please see my solution to the problem below
predator=> thank you for your reply:
wow am i embarassed to write this...
I started missing terribly on one cylinder today, like never before. Even when cold. So I pulled over and on a whim (desperate last attempt ) checked all the spark plug wires. They were all fine but one felt a little weird.
I pulled it completely out and inspected it. I then put it back on and got the satisfying "click". But something wasn't quite right with it, so I pulled it out again, and tried again.
It was then that I realized that the click was coming from the boot clicking into the spark plug metal heat shield and not the spark plug. This particular boot was manufactured 3/8" shorter than the rest of the boots and the metal protector prevented it from completely clicking onto the spark plug.
What bad luck eh? So i bought one new spark plug wire and it fit perfectly. Talk about a minor manufacturing error costing $$$ and major headaches!!
Not your every day problem. Its just funny and adds insult to injury as I tried looking at the wires many times before I realized it was clicking onto the heat shield and not the plug.
So it goes to show that you can't trust even a simple brand new part to be accurate.
Thanks for all your help everyone!
