I still have no clue what you mean by racing. 5th gear is the same as fourth gear which is the same as 3rd gear. When you run out of third gear, you shift into fourth, when you run out of fourth you shift into 5th. Its not like your car is gonna die when youre in 5th you just would have to be "racing" somewhere where you hit that high of a speed. Sorry dont really get the question.

And yes the master cylinder will work from the LT1

Re: Tranny possibilities

^All I am saying is that, if 5th gear is an OD, then obviously there will be LITTLE to NO power made, hence a non-racing type gear
(lol.. sorry I have horrible discriptors )

Re: Tranny possibilities

its not gonna pull like a bat out of hell but it will still be moving if youre making the kind of power you were hoping for. Anything below 4500 rpms and youll be moving, stupid tpi intake kills anything above 5000

Re: Tranny possibilities

lol whatd you actually do, im gonna guess that you wont be making over 275 hp or over 325 ft lbs unless you did a lot, your trans and rear will hold for a while under those number

Re: Tranny possibilities

^ Iv'e done my own math, read other's math, and even used a few programs that did the math, and they all point to a MINIMUM of 300hp/350lbs. The most I have come to the conclusion of is about 320hp and like 380lb's, but that just *one* calculation. I am sticking w/ the 300hp/350lbs as that seems the most logical.
BTW, I am not telling anybody what I am making until I dyno it

Re: Tranny possibilities

You make it seem like some super top secret hidden technology. There are more combos out there than stars in the sky. Hiding it doesn't matter, especially on a 305.

But ya I know there is many combo's, but everybody seems so mystified when I say I will be making about 300hp then there must be *something* to my combo?

BTW.. tomorow I will be putting the rest of the top-end back on Then monday or Tuesday, *wax time!!*

Re: Tranny possibilities

I think they're curious as to what about your combo made you want to stick with a 305 over dropping a larger cube motor in.

Seriously though, good luck and I hope your combo runs what you want it to.

Re: Tranny possibilities

^The reason I went w/ my 305 over anything else is because I did this whole engine w/ *about* 500 bucks. Prolly a little less, I am just making it a nice round number
But thank you for the kind words; not many people like to wish a 305-lover those words
BTW.. most of the top end is on, I just need to get the carb on, radiators, distributor, and put the console back together

Re: Tranny possibilities

Thanks for the link Justin, but I want the T56 because of 2 reasons; one more gear, plus I think having a 6spd in a 20 year old car is kind of "exotic" if you know what I mean I have told a few friends of the 6spd idea and they are already "whoa"ing me
