Re: Tranny possibilities
EVERYTHING bolts up perfectly. The bellhousing fits fine. Also note that tremec sells and aftermarket version of the t-56 that will NOT bolt up perfectly, you need the t-56 out of an LT1 car. The wiring from the tranny is as simple as getting a new connector or two. And if you can handle a full tranny swap then dealing with your speedo is not a big deal.
The t-56 is a bolt in. Simple. No welding, No fabrication. It all fits. No manual will ever be easier to put in.
And no you cant beef up your t-5. Well you can but i already proposed that idea to a tranny builder assuming i could get a WC t-5 which you dont even have, and he told me not to waste my time.
If this is too scary for you i sugest you look more into the TKO 600. Your torque arm will bolt up perfect and you still need the aftermarket crossmember. If you buy the right Lakewood scattershield bellhousing whatever its called, its a bit pricey around 400 bucks but i am fairly certain you can use all of the t-5 stuff, minus needing a new clutch. And its got a mechanical speedo so it removes that headache for you

Re: Tranny possibilities
Are you talking about the Tremec bolting up perfectly or the LT1 T56?
Doug, you keep saying that an LT1 T56 is direct bolt-in, but look at that website masiroc566 gave me; there is a LOT of **** there that will have to be done.

Re: Tranny possibilities
This is the absolute closest to direct bolt in you can get.
Go here and click on tremec. http://www.sallee-chevrolet.com/frame.html
Or go directly to the tremec site and look for "retroT56".

Re: Tranny possibilities
I was saying that the t-56 bolts right in. But if you have all of the right components the TKO isnt any harder to install and has a mechanical speedo which atleast takes that headache away for you.
Ya i see everything he had to do in that link. Looks like just about everything you would have to do if you were pulling your stock trans/clutch/master cylinder and such and putting all of the stock stuff back in.
I think the only reason he pulled the engine was because he was putting a different engine in? Because thats definitly not necessary to do the swap. And other then a tiny bit of wiring stuff it just looks like a basic tranny swap to me.
This might be because the RETRO t-56 is still not the one used in the 93-97 camaros. That t-56 will bolt up perfectly with your stock torque arm and drive shaft, no modifications required.

Where could I find one of those, and for about how much?

Honestly, I want an ordinary 94-97 Camaro T56; I could get one for pretty cheap I think (and all the accesories).
I can take out the mech. spedo in the dash, and put in an elect. one right? (I mean mount the elec. one right in the dash..)
Thanx for the link masiroc566, but I think using an ordinary T56 will be a little cheaper

Re: Tranny possibilities
^I've tried looking, I cant find ANYTHING TO DO WITH a LT1 T56, or 94 Camaro transmition, etc..
what search-words should I use
Now, say I get a tranny off of ebay, what will I need? The t56 bellhousing, clutch, and what else?

Re: Tranny possibilities
NOOOOOO.. i wont have any money like that for at least a year or so, but that is a damn good price for a COMPLETE tranny that is fully rebuilt
Thanx for finding it though.
What search-terms did you use to find it?
