and for those who think your ok because you reved the **** out of your 305 and didnt hit the valves, you need to understand what im saying,im not talking about smacking the pistons,i said cylinders...its called simple math, your great lg4 bore is less than 4 inch, add 2.02 valve with a 1.60 exhaust, thats 3.62 inches of valves alone, not including spacing, now stick that down into your cylinders on an angle at a high lift and you start to see where clearence on a 305 starts to become a problem, thus one main reason folk dont like the 305.its not a good build candidate due to the bore size
W.O.W. I know LS1's have more than 300hp stock, I know they run low 13's to high 12's stock. The end.
Oh ya.. and I dare you to go tell some LS1 owner that he doesn't own an LS1 anymore because he has bolt-ons

Yes, those are links to someone elses info NOT what you have done.. Also for your infomation, You can not make Hp by addition of all parts ( so called Mfg's HP numbers) you add to a motor.

Re: lg4

yeah, get a grip dude.a 305 aint going to be a stump puller no matter what.also those hp figures your link to are gross ratings,ls1 and such are net..hell a ls1 cranks out over 400 hp...........face the facts,an lg4 is just that,a basic gm "corporate" v8.no differnent than grandpas bonneville.oh and those guys will always have a ls1 regardless of the mods they do because the ls1 designates the design of the engine which wont change, where as your "lg4" all modded out will no longer be an "lg4" it will be just a generation 1 sbc..........ok here, say i got a bone stock pick up 350 and a 350lt1 from old days,i gut both ,keep only the blocks and replace everythign with the same parts?do i still have a lt1?no i have 2 identical 350s for the most parts, with the exception of a few differences like possibly 4 bolt mains but the engines are the same mechanically and functionally...the lt1 wont be any better

Did I say my LG4 would be a stump puller? Did I say my LG4 would run in the NHRA? Hell.. did I say my LG4 will take 29.657974% of the cars on this boarrd? Nope. Thanks for the thought, but a simple answer such as Nope will suffice.
But I am very curious to see one of these fabled "400+hp ls1's" you speak of (factory, I mean..) Last I knew the highest advertised LS1 was 345 in the '02 Trans AM (I suppose I could very well be wrong though..
I see what you mean though about having a Gen-I SBC; whats wrong with that? Ya know.. a 560hp 1969 ZR1 Camaro is a "Gen-I SBC".. must be a piece of sh*t right?
And btw.. an LT1 is a Gen-II block wise-a$$

EDIT: And I think it's a good idea for YOU to not participate in this thread any longer until I see a check of some form for a dyno

Re: lg4

what dont you get thru that tiny brain of yours, that 345 you seen is at the wheels....hence it makes more than that ,your great 305 build ups you link to are gross ratings at the flywheel,do a dyno on those at the wheels and your great 340 hp 305 drops to 280 at best...........wake up

I believe you are referring to a 1969 ZL-1 which was a bbc (big-block Chevy).

Re: lg4

quite honestly, it would be nice to see him having 300 hp or so with his setup. alot of people still have 305's, and are satisfied with right around 300 hp..and dont want to go through the trouble of swapping an engine, and then a tranny, etc just for that. 300 flywheel hp in a 3rd gen should run high 13's, and be more the enough to have fun with on the street for alot of people.

I'm pretty sure he was referring to the LT-1 from the 70's, they put them in the vettes. Corvette LT-1

and yes that was a gen-1 SBC.
