I Hate My Car

Woo where to start

Replaced my tranny with a tko-600 transmission from fortes with the spacer they provide to put it in a third gen. This kit is designed to work with the spohn crossmember in a third gen and all be a bolt in. Had the trans installed by a very reputable speed shop and the mount on the trans is an inch too far forward from the mount on the crossmember. Shop fabbed up a little custom bracket to make the mount line up but have no idea what is making everything not sit right.
Spohn's product is custom made when you order it and made in a jig so i dont see it being possible that they sent me the wrong piece. And forte's claims that they havent changed anything to do with their kit. And everyone else whos ever done this swap says it bolted in no problems so i dont even know where to start.

I also had a rediculous drivetrain vibration at anything over 2500 rpms that i was previously unable to pinpoint. Now that ive swaped the trans i know for sure its the engine being completly out of balance. However my engine looks like its sitting at a bit of a weird angle and god knows why the tranny isnt sitting at the right angle.

So i dont see how i can take my car to a speed shop that has a scope and tell them to find out whats wrong with my engine when my drivetrain may or may not be out of alignment.

The biggest issue is the custom bracket fortes rotates the tko-600 from a 90 degree bolt pattern to the canted position of a t-5 and i dont know how to even check if the bracket really did that considering the lakewood bellhousing has provisions for both 90 degree and the what is it either 15 or 17 degree canted position of the t-5.

Im at a complete and total loss.

If it makes you feel any better, I checked out your Camaro and signed your guestbook.

Just remember other thrid gen owners, like myself, are multitasking problems and emptying their bank accounts at a higher scale than you just to keep the thing running. Others have it worse. Cheer up! Nice car by the way

Its more the fact that im reaching around 6000 canadian in this tranny swap and unlike every other third gen that this trans has ever gone into, it doesnt fit properly in mine. And my engine is ****ed but i cant even fix that until i figure out why this tranny doesnt fit right, and i honestly dont see how im going to ever figure out why this trans doesnt fit right

it kinda sucks u took it to a shop.. u really have no cule what all they did... the only other thing than take it back to the shop(which is what id do) is to pull the tranny urself and see why it isnt fitting right

Did the tranny fit well before the swap? If these people are professionals they should know exactly what the problem is.

Re: I Hate My Car

I'm not sure what part i said that i wasnt really clear about.

Had the 700R-4 pulled out and replaced with a Tremec TKO-600 5 speed, designed to be used with a spohn crossmember, and the trans mount from the new aftermarket transmission and the crossmember just dont line up, everything else bolted in fine. Just dont know what is wrong with my setup that those two pieces didnt line up because they have for everyone elses car that has done this swap.
