Hatch Pull Down Unit

The hatch pull down in the '86 is in the lowered position and won't come back to the raised position. I tried to hit the release button on the console and the one on the latch itself. This thing is highly anoying.
Is there another way to trick **** this thing into latching?
If you have a shop manual for the '86 and can send me some pics of the wiring diagrams I'd apreciate it. I have the '85 manual and don't have the diagrams.
Any help will be appreciated.

I thought about that, hoping to find a more refined method.
I did find the drawings, at Thirdgen.org , in the electrical section. There are the '85 & '86 diagrams.

MY RIDE DID/ DOES THAT. ARE ANY OF YOUR FUSES BLOWN? WITH MY CAR THERE IS 2 THAT WORK WITH THE TRUNK. FOR A WHILE MY TRUNK WAS LOCKED AND WOULD NOT OPEN, I HAD TO GET A FRIEND TO GET IN MY HATCH AND PULL MY PANELS OFF (MAN WAS HE SWEATING). THEN WHEN I GOT IT OPEN IT WORKED FOR ABOUT A WEEK THEN IT WOULDNT LOCK, BECAUSE THE MOTOR WAS IN THE DOWN POSITION AND WOULDNT COME UP. I HIT A LIL BLACK BUTTON IN THE MOTOR WITH A SCREW DRIVER AND IT CAME UP. THEN THAT DIDNT WORK AFTER ANOTHER WEEK. I CHECKED THE FUSES (ALL OF EM) AND 1 WAS BLOWN BUT IT WASNT THE TRUNK FUSE. THEN MY TRUNK MOTOR WORKED KINDA. THEN IT LOCKED AND THE MOTOR WOULD GO UP N DOWN BY IT SELF, SO WHEN IT IS IN THE DOWN POSITION I TOOK THE FUSE OUT SO IT WILL STAY LOCKED. SO NOW IF BY ACCIDENT I HIT THE TRUNK RELEASE BUTTON I NEED TO STICK THAT FUSE BACK IN TO GET IT TO LOCK, THE TAKE IT OUT. DONT KOW HOW MUCH SENSE THIS MAKES TO YOU BUT THATS THE BEST I CAN EXPLAIN. SORRY. BTW ITS ALSO AN 86'.

Maybe the relay is dead? First thing I would do is check to see if the fuses, check the switch to see if it is bad, then check to see if there is 12V going to the motor itself. I have an extra assembly if you need an peticular parts.

Do you know where the relay is? I have the diagram, no mention of a relay though.
The switch on the console will make the normal 'click' sound when I push it. I think that is good.
I will probably order parts from Top Down Solutions, I just want to know what is wrong first. I don't want to order a $245 parts when a $15 part will fix it.
Fortuneately this is not a daily driver, I am keeping her in rthe garage until she gets fixed. Keeps the rain out.
Thanks to all that replied.

theres a much cheaper way to fix it,as long as u dont mind not having the pull down function. when we bought my car,the hatch pull down wasnt working (along w/ the other 99.8% or 3rd gens out there for sale). what me and my dad did was took the whole motor/gear assembly off and chucked it in the garbage. then i put the latch back onto the car w/ the bolts lightly screwed in and used vice grips to hold the latch at a certain height (i dont have 1 in front of me so im sorry if this doesnt make alot of sense, try to bear w/ me tho,its worth it). then i would try to close the hatch. u do this repeatedly untill u find the right height where the hatch will open and close. then take a welder and tack it into place,i just put like 3 or 4 little welds in it i think. so now i just have a regular hatch latch, and the release inside the car still works. o yea,and a 10 lbs lighter car!

The relay is this little black box about a 1.5" cube and is mounted to the left of the motor if you are looking from the back of the car. There are only so many things to go wrong with it since it is relatively simple.

Still, check fuses, then check if there is 12V+ back there. If either of those are a no go, then working on other things won't work.

maybe im on the totally wrong track, but when mine did that i just stuck a screwdriver down where the latch on the hatch goes down, and pushed on that little mechanism, it retracts a littel and then comes up if i recall been awhile since it's done that too me...you can also use your finger i've done that too, but i'd use a screwdriver just in case, hey it's cheap and takes maybe 3 seconds to attemp
