rocker arms breaking
i got vortec heads with 2.02/1.60 valves..they have guideplates, 3/8 screw in studs, and i bought self aligning 1.6 roller rockers kendall chevrolet told me they would work fine even with guideplates and i've broke 2 of them within the last hour... they get a little loose after a minute or two and i re-adjust them and tighten the polylocks and it just gets loose again.. the valves are defintley not bent ... would self aligning roller rockers work for my application or was kendall wrong ?
Use either one or the other, not both.

I would suggest that would be your cue that self-aligning rockers and guideplates DO NOT MIX.
Use either a self-aliging rocker OR guideplates but NOT both. If you use guideplates, you will also need hardened pushrods. The people at Kendall seem more interested in selling parts than they do with giving out correct info to use them.
You should also be aware that the pushrod holes in the Vortec heads should be elongated when going to a high lift cam with 1.6 rockers. I run ported Vortecs in my '77 Z/28 with the stock Vortec 1.52 stamped-steel guided-rail rockers and no guideplates, and have had zero problems.
I would suggest you remove your guideplates asap.
