harmonic balancer question

I noticed towards the end of last year (last time i drove my camaro) that it would shudder as i was driving along, always the same speed and rpms so i knew it was coming. the car would feel a little "off" when it was doing it and my y-pipe would bang on my SFC

well i looked at my harmonic balancer and the rubber ring that connects the inner and outer rings was missing some of the rubber..... i have a feeling that this is what is causing my vibrations

I have a parts car that i'm ripping out the rear end, trannie, all the 5 speed stuff, and pulleys (as well as some other stuff like an A/C delete firewall)
I'm gonna have the engine out in the near future and i was wondering if i could use the balancer from the 305 on my 350 Its not really a high HP car (yet ) so i was hoping that just replacing it with another stock one would suffice, as opposed to buying one of the aftermarket ones that have quite a price range.

I haven't had a chance to measure what the sizes are for both balancers, but assuming that they are both the same could i use it? could i use it even if its not the same? if i need to buy another one should i just get like the summit one for $50-ish and just get the same size?

I'm on a limited budget of nothing so if i could get this part from my donor car it would be awesome
thanks

I have used 305 balancers/dampers on 350's before and had no trouble, I say try it and if all is well, OK, if still has a vibration, then spnd $ and get the summit one

Thumbs up

Since your car is an '85, I would image you have a 2-piece RMS type block, correct? All SBC from '55 to '86 use the same balancer. The engine is internally balanced, so the balancer is un affected. Some high performance SBC used the larger 8" damper, but all the others used the 6-3/4" damper. So long as it is good, go for it.

You can use it. I had the balancer from my old 305 on my 355 for a year and a half (till the ring broke and I bought a Fluidampr.)
