Fuel pump might be going out?

When first starting the car, the surging RPMs kind of go up and down, in the 900-1300 range.

After about 5 mins of driving, it goes away.

But, also, when at an idle in park, and then give gas to go, it acts like it is about to die, but then all of a sudden comes back to life.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

One other thing - Iv posted this before, and maybe it is related, but I also get white/blue smoke at startup sometimes.

Edit: I have to "prime" the motor sometimes (turn key on/off a couple times when first starting up) to get it to start up nicely. Otherwise it turns over for a few seconds.

My car does the same thing, except for the problem with turning over. It starts every time with no problems. Either my fuel pump is going too, or all of them do this. I am curious which it is.

AFAIK, white smoke is coolant and blue smoke is oil burning. Are you sure it isn't that your valve stem seals are leaking oil into the combustion chamber and fouling the plug?

What fuel pressure are you running? Is your fuel pressure regulator holding pressure after shutdown.

I have no clue how to check it or where it is.

You stick a fuel pressure gauge onto the schraeder valve and turn the key on. It should spike up to 45 or more psi. Shut the car down and see if the fuel pressure drops. It should hold the pressure for a long while. If not, your FPR is shot.
