what to do with heads?

i plan on building the car up a bit. i will be adding a mini ram and lt4 hotcam kit with 1.6 rocker and a few misc. parts here and there to my 87 350 tpi. can i run the LT1 heads on my L98 motor? i also thought about the L98 vette heads. i don't know where i can find these at though?? i am not really up for porting my heads myself. i guess my only other option is having my factory heads ported out. i am not sure what the best route to go would be. i am looking for the best route in performance and price. i don't want to be spending over $1000 for sure on heads and head work. any suggestions would be great.

If you're budgeting for $1000 to have heads worked I would nicely say spend that $1000 on aftermarket heads at the very least. L98 Vette heads are the same as what are on your L98 350 with the exception of them being cast out of aluminum instead of iron like yours are. Power wise you you probably couldn't notice any gains. World Products, AFR, Dart, and many other companies make a seriously good iron head for under $1000 and companies like Trick Flow, Edelbrock, and World make heads near or uder $1000. Saving a little more money could buy better aluminum heads but it's up to the buyer. Rule of thumb..."The heads are where the power is made and that's where the money should be spent" Better performing heads with a weaker camshaft will always make more power than an aggressively cammed engine with weaker heads.

Dollar for Dollar Most people on this board would reccomend buying AFR 190cc aluminum heads, Dart Pro 1 200cc, Trick Flow 195cc, or Pro Topline 200cc heads. Or Bigger AFR 210's, Brodix Track1(215cc), Dart 215 Pro 1, or Canfield 200+cc heads if you wanted to go with a larger camshaft and more rpm(ie: build a stout bottomend along with these)...

Goodluck man, let us know what the plan is if ya will.

I'd go with AFR and not TFS. If you gave me a set of TFS heads, I'd use them for a boat anchor. I bought these cheaper TFS heads and ended up spending more money and time rebuilding my engine than if I had bought the good heads.
