Fuel pump just died, need recomendations.
Apparently my fuel gauge is a little off so Ive been trying to get my car to start for the past two days with no gas (I thought it was a timing problem) Well today I figured it out and the pump is dead from me trying to start it dry.
Anyway I had a stock TPI unit in there with a mallory adjustable pressure regulator since Im carbed now. I dont want to put in another in tank pump, but what kind of pump should I get. I was looking in Summit and Im not sure if I need an electrical In-line pump or the other kind. What is it mechanical?
Which would be best, and also what do I do about a pick up in the tank since I wont have an in-tank pump anymore.

Well you have to take the old pump out then you get a sending unit from a carbed F-body and put the inline pump in or if your block has the spot to put an on the block pump you can put it on the block where you can get at it easyer

a mechanical fuel pump is the 1 that bolts to the block and uses a lobe off the camshaft to "pump" the fuel. if i was u,i would take the dead electric 1 outta the tank, put in the right sending unit for the fuel level guage, and put a mallory in-line fuel pump in. im sure putting that regulator on it is what killed that pump, seeing as how its supposed to push 38+ PSI and ur knocking it down to 6 psi or so. but if u put a in-line fuel pump in,remember that they PUSH better than they PULL,so mount in near the back of the car as close to the tank as u can.

Also I suppose my newer 305 block doesnt have the place to put in a mechanical pump so Im pretty much up for an in-line pump now

Can someone tell me where the spot would be to put on a mechanical fuel pump so I can see if my block has the space for one. I just need to know where to look for it and what exactly to look for?
Block off plate
There should be a block off plate on the front passenger side of the block just below the head. It's kind of a elongated pentagon shape, has two small, and two larger bolts. If you go machanical you will need the push rod too. Summit has a Moroso light weight rod MOR-65750 for about $20.

I had problems with my Z starting, trying to figure why.None of the typical solutions worked so I parked it for a while. One day I go to start it and nothing,no power nothing.I didn't here the buzz noise from the fuel pump but then I thought that it was my neutral safety switch, nope. It turned out to be heat from my headers that had killed my starter solenoid.
