Fuel Pump Bad??
Ok yesterday go to take my 89 Iroc to work cause it was nice out and turns on then shuts off quickly, typical cause it was a lil cold, turn the key again and all it does is turn and turn no fire. I turn the key to off turn in back on, but I dont hear the fuel pump cycle. I give up and take truck to work. Today go to take car to work starts up no problem just like every other day. Go out to drive to get my chinese food lunch turns over once dies, turn off then back on, again do not hear the fuel pump cycle. I thinks its the fuel pump as much as I dont want it to be. Any other Ideas that arnt as big of a pain in the ***.
Thanks for any help

The oil pressure sender only works when there's oil pressure (in case the ECM fails to energize the fuel pump relay for some reason). When you're cranking there isn't enough oil pressure to turn that switch on, typically, and the ECM is the only thing commanding the fuel pump relay to turn on while cranking.
That "priming" of the fuel pump you hear when you turn the key on is becuase the ECM is commanding the fuel pump relay to kick on for a few seconds. If the ECM, relay or wiring is faulty the pump won't turn on. Obviously, if the pump itself is getting flaky it won't work either.
I believe (but am not certain) that both the ECM and the oil pressure switch cause the fuel pump to run in the same basic manner- by supplying a ground to energize the fuel pump relay.
