Re: Fuel Pump

oh im pretty sure all third gen fuel pumps were intank pumps (inside of ur fuel tank, thats why you can not see it) but i guess maybe some carbed ones came with mechanical pumps (mounted on the side of ur block, runs off a cam lobe) but im not 100 percent on that, chances are its inside of your fuel tank.

Re: Fuel Pump

my 87 iroc, has a 305 carb, mechanical fuel pump on side of block

i know all the carbed small blocks have mechanical fuel pumps
i know all tuned port, and v6's have intank pumps

i dont know if the mechanical fuel pumps provides enough fuel pressure for throttle body or crossfire systems, probably not, so those probably have intank pumps as well

Re: Fuel Pump

In '82, there was not a fuel injected v6 available. You could get either the I4 or the V6 with a 2bbl carb, or the I4 with TBI...then the v8's.

What is the 8th digit of the vin?

Re: Fuel Pump

well turn the key to the on possition. If its an intank pump it will prime for a few seconds and youll see gas poor out of the feed line (put a bottle on the end please, and no cigarettes no matter how bad you fiend).

Re: Fuel Pump

I don't remember exact pressure numbers, but TBI intank pumps were weaker than TPI intank pumps. If the motor you are installing will require some decent fuel pressure, just buy a nice walbro or something and install a regulator.

I have an '87 LG4 (carb) ... and it had both a mechanical (side of block) AND an electric pump (in tank, smaller than L98).

If you are installing an FI - install an in-tank pump, or you can run one "in line" and mounted to the underside of the car. If you are running a carb, then the block mounted mechanical is the way to go.
