i have an 86 TPI mas air camaro. has 5.7 roller motor, roller rr, gear drive, hypertect stage 3 chip. someone told me i might have problem with stock knock sencer, picking up gear drive. can this sencer reprogramed out of the computer? if so, how? if not, any ideas helpfull....

also where is a good place to start the timming? (cam is little over stock HYD roller vett. out of a 89 TPI)...

gear drives are not recommended for computer controlled vehicles. The knock sensor is designed to detect detonation...without it your computer cannot determine when engine damage may occur and retard the timing. My recommendation is stick with a nice sturdy timing chain set. If you have a gear drive the knock sensor "hears" it and thinks its detonation and is retarding the timing. Unless you are running a monster setup, then a gear drive is overkill, IMO...

 

motor& trans were in the car when i got it, just trying to finish it. not really trying to take it back apart again. motor never started, i got it because this guy didnt want his x/wife to get it.
