Flowmaster is the best sounding muffler IMO, and I've heard pretty much everything out there. They are not restrictive to your car unless you are making some crazy power and absolutely need every bit of flow possible. A stock/mild car doesn't need nearly the 10,000 CFM that people think they do. MANY people are REALLY fast out there with heavily modded cars and Flowmasters.

The most common? I doubt that. Actually, I know for a fact it isn't.

I had a Hooker 3". Sounded great. I had no complaints whatsoever about it. I wanted something different though, and since I was going to do a cam swap soon, and heads in the very near future, I bought a Mufflex system. I got the Spintech dual out - and HATED IT! Sounded quiet and weak. So I downgraded to a single in/out 4" Flowmaster. Not only did I gain butt dyno power, but the sound was incredible. Much, much better than the Spintech, and better than the Hooker too. Absolutely nothing like a typical Flowmaster'd 3rd gen. No sound clips of it yet, but you can listen to a car that sounds EXACTLY like mine. Just listen to the Mustang from Gone in 60 Seconds.

Almost everyone I know who buys a Mufflex catback gets a spintech muffler...But most of the people I know drive LS1's and LT1's that are in the 12's and below...And almost all that have a Mufflex(or have had) get it with the Spintech and love it, until they get duals. Of course, most of us have cams/heads, too, so that makes a difference in how loud it is. My 95, for instance, is just a bit louder than a stock car with a flowmiester...

I just replaced my 16 yr old factory muffler with a new Flowmaster muffler last month. I think it is the 80 series. The idle sound is great. I get what some of you mean about the drone at WOT. It gets a little annoying over long drives for non gear heads. I also replaced the cat back exhaust with 3" pipes. I like it but some passengers do not. I also have 18" chrome tips. That finishes it off sweet.

Odd. I am a member here, and at LS1.com Most of the Mufflex systems I see in sigs are Flows. And the classifieds are 75% of the time Flows. Mufflex even told me the single 4" in/out Flowmaster catback is their best seller.

I have aftermarket heads/cam too. The car is capable of 12s, just haven't run it yet. It will keep up with an acquaintance's CC305 LT1...

The best muffler will do squat if it outflows the exhausting gasses. Before we figure out to put a 6 in system, lets figure out first what he needs. A stock 305 or 350 you can get away with a Midas special.

I don't know about the sound because I figured that is what the ricers can hear when I pass them and I am not into entertaining ricers nor am I a ricer with a fart pipe.

Well, keep in mind that this thread is more specifically about the 80 series muffler, not 40 series or other race style mufflers. I am referring to people I personally know, not sigs of someone who is on the web...And the 305 is not a big cam, so that doesn't surprise me.
