Hi, i was wondering what is a good oil to run with a Flat Tappet cam, I run Mobil 1 or Amsoil in my cars/Bikes/quads and so on.

Comp has an oil thats intended for race apps and flat tappets, shell rotella t is another thats recommended for flat tappets. you want something with additives unlike reg 10-30 that dosent have them.

A few VW racers(flat tappets) in the family run Joe Gibbs stuff with high zinc or Brad Penn..

They used to run Valvoline VR1 and some racers still do. Sometimes you can find it for $1.99 or 2.99..

"specialty" oils just keep going up in price it seems.

Tons of people swear by Rotella T and VR1... I'll never do a flat tappet again after having 2 Comp Nitrous HP cams wiping lobes out on break in.. ruined a brand new engine.. Comp offered no help.. The first cam wiped 1 lobe... ordered the same cam again... that one wiped 5 lobes off!! Springs were Comp spec for the cam too..

Goodluck!

how did you break the cam in, were you using dual springs and did you break the cam in with the inner spring in place if you were using dual springs ?
