92 Rs 3.1 V6

I found a 92 Camaro 3.1L V6 for sale and I was wondering if the 3.1 v6 is a good engine or not. Just wanted to know if anyone knows about that engine or not. Thanks

I had a '91 RS with that engine and it's a pretty solid engine, even if its not very fast. I got great gas milage with it as it was coupled to a 5-spd. I must have redlined it several times missing 3rd gear from 2nd by hitting 1st and it never complained a bit.

good engine how? rather reliable... awesome on gas in comparison to other models and the less weight of the vehicle actually makes the v6 version 3rdgens the most fun to drive.

your just not going to be a race car with it, if it's in your budget and in decent shape it's not a bad investment.

The 3.1 is a GREAT motor. They are quick motors (I had one in a sunbird w/ a 5spd.. talking about fast..) ESPECIALLY when matted to 5spds, EXTREMELY reliable, very cheap to repair, get pretty fantastic gas mileage, and have a large following for their motors.
Go to 60degreev6.com they know ALL about 60* motors, and they sell many parts/ecu's for them.

Reliable yes. Fast no. The technology is pretty old-and it shows in the 140hp rating. Most economy 4cyl cars made today can whip you.

Of course that makes it all the more of a challenge to mod or swap it for a newer more powerful V6

The 3.1L is a very stout engine, and with my past experiences with them, have proved very reliable and durable. I have seen plenty with 150-200K on the clock.

Fast no?? Try again. A 140hp motor mated to a 5spd close ration Getrag h282 gearbox in a light *** '93 SunBird is FAST. I used to LOVE raping brand new honda accords and Hemi rams and **** in that thing. Then laughing as they had to stop at the gas pump. Then lauged even harder after I informed them I have 240k miles on the clock. Oh and I've even raped a s/c monte carlo ss (high 90's early 2000's style.. talked to the guy afterwords to confirm this).

150k? That ain't ****. I've had a 155k mile 3.1, 240k mile 3.1 '90 GP SE 5spd, and currently own (albeit in NY still) '93 Sunbird w/ 240k miles 3.1 5spd.

I don't know where to start but facts are facts. Hemi Rams are mid to low 15 sec truck. You might be able to beat an automatic 4cly Accord but nothing above that. And those Monte Carlo SS only had the S/C in 04 I beleive....they did build 3800 NA engines in SS Montes too.

Simply put I bet you can drive--and anyone you raced can't or they weren't trying. Thats the only logical explanation.

Are we supposed to believe some old tech 60 degree 3.1L is a giant killer--it can take down new, high tech engines of much greater power?

These V6 Sunbirds, at best were low 16 sec cars. The old 2.0L Turbos were faster.

They are light but hardly super light! Ever weighed it?

Of course your 5 speed Sunbird is faster then a heavier Camaro. I'll give you that. The 3.1L has decent low end grunt, ok midrange but nothing up high.

I am still surprised you think these are fast! You have a 12 sec Mustang--thats fast!

I am sure you'll disagree

You know me, of course i'm gonna disagree!! I know my Mustang is FAST... but that Sunbird is fast man. Having a 1993 Pontiac Sunbird w/ 240k miles absolutely WASTE early and high 90's BMW's, brand new 350hp hemi's, honda accords etc.. man that's impressive. And it would get right around 40mpg w/ ac on on the highway
