Modding my 83 305 with CompCam & kit

Actually I'm also changing the intake and carb. The computer will be by-past as the carb doesn't have a TPS or computer controlled metering rods. I'm also replacing the distributer with a vacuum advanced HEI distributer. Any idea what the computer will be doing? My guess is not much and the check engine light might be shining. Thanks for any inputs.

Thats all it will do.

What are you doing as far as a carb and intake?

What camshaft? Make a sig with your set-up in it.

Its always interesting to see what people can do with these old 305's.......I built a few a long time ago. What you doing will make a huge difference

I'll update my signature soon. I'm installing a Carter AFB carb, Edlebrock's performer intake, Comp Cam's XE262H cam and their kit which includes new lifters, springs, retainers, seals, timing gear set, etc. I'm also replacing the computer controlled distributer with a vacuum advanced HEI distributer as the carb doesn't have a TPS or computer controlled metering rods. All this can only help a little. This all started because of an oil leak.

Good luck, sounds like a fun project. Get some headers if you don't have them

Already running SLP long tubes. We got the springs in today and will start the cam install tomorrow. It's nice not to be in a hurry.

Looks like a good project, keep us posted. I never see as many people modding the older, carbed 305s.

Update on progress. Finished the springs and timing gear set install and took forever to get the timing cover on. There must be a good tech tip for this. But it's on and next is the lifters, push rods, rockers and their adjustment. I'll probably take Super Bowl Sunday off and get back to it Monday.

Snip the little ears of the inside lip next time and silicone it up on the seal. Be sure everything is clean.
