What I can't help but wonder is why GM discontinued it in 1990
Cost was the primary reason. Hence the slight (but nowhere near enough) improvements to the 10 bolt.

Re: 9" Borg Warner on stock 88 IROC-Z?

Ok so this is an old thread I see but some places like it if you reply to something rather than starting a new thread.

Anyway, I have an '89 IROC with the G92, yes it's got the 9 bolt and 3:27's. BUT I want them a bit lower. Not 4:10s or 4:11s mentioned here. Maybe - 3:70s but not lower.

What I need to know is will my current carrier be fine with the lower gear set? And is the other mid 3:xx's that were not stock options ie 3:55s??? Yes my gears and carrier are good to go.

Thanks a bunch...

According to DTS the carrier break is 3.07 and numerically lower / 3.27 and numerically higher.

Just to clarify, the rear axle ratio is expressed as 3.27:1 (3.27 rotations of the driveshaft for each wheel revolution), not 3:27

Yep I got ya, I know that just a punctuation error

Anyway - Thank you, I'm going to check that out. Hopefully it will tell me if a3.70 set will ride the same carrier...

I see it now, its a sales site not an info site... I have already found a number of places like that... Need exact info then I'll buy from some where, thanks for the try again just the same, just not what I'm looking for...

Re: 9" Borg Warner on stock 88 IROC-Z?

This I found to be interesting.

Hi Dan,
All the 9 bolt ratio are: 2.54, 2.77, 2.92, 3.08, 3.23, 3.27, 3.45, 3.50, 3.70, 3.73, 3.89, 3.91, 4.10, 4.11, 5.13.
Some of them are pretty rare, but that's all of them ever produced.
Cheers, Glenn9Bolt.com
