Re: 87 Iroc Gears.

if the car wont see the track very often you could even go with a higher (numerically lower) gear than a 3.73. I have 3.27s in my car and they are a decent balance of MPG and performance...They make gears in just about anything you could possibly want.

If you put a 5spd or 6spd in, you could be going 60mph at like 1k-rpms to 1200rpms. That is where your fuel-savings come in. Not to mention, your car w/ 4.10's prolly tops out at like 120, whereas w/ a 5spd or 6spd you could hit 20-30mph more than that (maybe even more).
Actually the overdrive gear in the 700R4 and the T-5 are pretty much the same (.7x:1ish). You will see only a very minor difference on the highway with the two transmissions. A T-56 is a whole different story, since they all have two overdrive gears, with 6th being either a .50:1 or a .6x:1

FWIW - 4.10s will actually improve your milage around town, as long as you can keep your foot out of the gas. The extra gear means you need less power to get the car rolling.

If you enjoy drag racing, and the car sees limited highway time, 4.10s are probably your best choice.
