Which 4L60E transmission for a 1995 Z28?
Put a 95 Camaro Z28 drive-line in my sons 37 Chevy..every has been going fine. Just got an email from him that it sounds like it's grinding before shifting into the first couple of gears. The speedo also stop working around 30mph.
Anyway...I understand the 95 Camaro Z28 trans is a stand alone...is there specific requirements to order a transmission for a 95 Camaro?
Thanks

Yes. It has to be out of a 95 Camaro or Firebird LT1. Here's some good info:

Note the paragraph at the bottom of the first post. If you want to reprogram your PCM with a 94 A4 program, you can use a 94 F-body trans.

BTW: The 700R4 has an application year date stamp on the passenger side above the pan...does the 4L60E have a similar stamping anywhere?
Thanks

There should be a partial VIN on the flange that bolts to the engine:

One last question ()
Will any 1995 rear wheel drive 4L60E tranny work...ie 1995 LT1 Caprice, C1500, Van etc?

Let me ask this, if you were building a street rod with 93-95 LT1 engine..which year 4L60E would you recommend using? Appears that the 95 PWM unit has some issues and since it is year specific....locating one is a bit tougher.
ALSO: Can't locate a 4L60e wiring diagram to determine what the color wires are used for the PWM. The trans we have apparently has a long plug with one black and one red wire not plugged into anything inside the trans oil pan.

I know nothing about auto transmissions. Don't know which year 4L60E is best.
Shoebox has what you are looking for:

Re: Which 4L60E transmission for a 1995 Z28?
Since this is going in an engine swapped car I would just try to find a 700r4 or a 4l60 (non electronic trans). That way the pcm has nothing to do with it and you can use whatever you want.
If you want to keep the electronic 4l60e then I would just use what you have and get it rebuilt. I would have them upgrade it though because the stock 4l60e (700r4 also) isn't anything to brag about as far as durability when your abusing it.
The 4l60 can be found in the 1993 model f-body cars and the 700r4 is a pretty standard unit in the early 90's pickups and 3rd gen f-body cars... a 4l60 is just an updated 700r4, and the 4l60e is just the electronically controlled version of the 4l60. Hope this helps.
