temp problems

Hello
I have a 1992 Z28 with the fast computer (ecm). It seems that the car runs a little on the warm side.

The main question is, The laptop says through the ccom dashboard view my temperature is below 200 F or right around. But the gauge in my dash (stock Gauge) says it is running 230-250 way to hot for just driving on the highway & of course in town or just driving at all.

I like the temps the laptop gives me. What do you think the problem is? And any recommendations?

Thanks,
Robbie

Re: temp problems

Could try replacing the temp. sending unit. I believe its in the driver side head between cylinders 1 & 3.

EDIT: Are the fans working good? Are they coming on and off at the right time? Maybe you could adjust them to come on sooner to keep it cooler.
Im not sure what you can/cant do w/ a FAST ecm.

Re: temp problems

The fans are working good. They are connected to the ecm & they both come on at 100 f. With the fast ecm you can change it to whatever temp you want. I think your right about the sending unit. I will change it today.

But still the laptop temp says the car is not running to hot. I guess it could be the wrong temp sender on the car for it to not be working correctly with the dash gauge. Here in Dallas the outside temps are pretty close to 100 with the heat index over 100.

Thanks,
Robbie

Re: temp problems

The ECM reads the temperature from right by the thermostat in the block or intake manifold, I forget which. The temp gauge reads from the head between cylinders 1 and 3. It makes sense that the temp at the head would be higher than by the thermostat.

Re: temp problems

Right now the one in question is the coolant temp, not the air temp. I am pretty sure these cars only have one coolant temp sending unit, right.

Thanks

Nope, 2

one in the intake near the t-stat is the ECT sensor, for the computer, and one in the cylinder head between cylinders 1&3 that feeds the gauge

Re: temp problems

What do you think about the overall heating problem? Could I have put the wrong coolant temp sending unit on the cylinder head or do you think the car is really running that hot.

Thanks,
Robbie

if it is just the stock gauge, they are notoriously inaccurate
