Did I miss an announcement about the gear ratios? I was expecting something closer to the G8's 2.92 rear gear.

The LS3 G8 gets 3.27's with the auto and 3.70's with the manual.

As far as I can tell in 30 seconds of Googling, the LS3 G8's fuel economy numbers aren't out yet.

The G8 GT with the manual is rated 24/15 with 3.27 rear gears, and it's heavier than the Camaro.

It's mostly the 23mpg highway that I find hard to believe.

The G8 GT is auto only. It also makes 54 horsepower less than the Camaro (manual). Thirty-five less than the auto.

Yep, and GM V8 cars with manual transmissions tend to get better fuel economy than automatics, despite their higher final drive ratios.

We'll know the real ratings in a few hours. No sense debating it any further here.

In the pic it is set to Km/h and it still only goes to 160

We'll see how things turn out with AFM in the mix.

I don't think the M6 will be getting AFM.

Yeah, I know. I was thinking more in terms of the auto with AFM versus the manual without. The auto might end up getting better mileage. The V6 Accord's auto with cylinder deactivation gets 28 hwy compared to 25 hwy with the manual without cylinder deactivation.

I don't know where the "10 and 2" thing originated. The best place for your hands is, and has always been, 9 and 3. This affords you better control over the car, keeps your arms out of the way of a deploying airbag, and is superior ergonomically compared to 10 and 2.

For the record, I don't insist that everyone drive with their hands at 9 and 3. I know that's unreasonable. If I'm not on a racetrack, I generally drive with my left hand around 9:00 (resting on the spoke) and my right hand on the center console.

I do, however, insist that having your left hand at 4:00 and your right hand not on the wheel at all is pretty much the worst possible option. Safety and control aside -- is that even comfortable?

Unfortunately, it looks like all we're given today is an estimated (which I read as "unofficial") 23 highway for the automatic. No fuel economy numbers for the manual.

Time will tell...

Assuming it is a V6 car, how about the fact the Torque guage goes up to 370

I don't expect a V6 to hit that mark but even if starts to approach that

Of course there's also the possiblity that the guage is just generic between the V6 and V8 versions...
That's 370 N/m (newton / meters) instead of lb/ft.

He said on the broadcast that they're still working on it. So I'm sure they're tweaking all of the programming on both V6 and V8 to get MPG as high as possible - but I seem to recall someone saying 23 for the automatic a page or two ago...oh, wait that was me

Still, guess the question will have to go unanswered until we get official EPA numbers. I don't know if the AFM and lower power will give the auto better fuel economy than the manual or not. The 'Vette with the 6 speed and without AFM gets 1 mpg better for the manual.

I came in five minutes late and saw Ed giving an overview of the interior. The whole presentation that I saw was pretty sparse on details. The GM of the dealer I went to said this was pretty typical of the presentations.

He did tell me that cars ought to flow in about four to five weeks after the February 9, 2009 start-up. He said look for cars around March 20th.
