So... When are we going to know...

... Details about what we can buy? Like trim levels, and options and such... I want to be able to plan out exactly what I want. And the sooner I know what's available the sooner I can get my finances in line. (I'm going to get one almost 100%).

I'd assume with-in days/weeks of hitting the lots.....I wouldn’t get my hopes up on anytime soon.

Unless it makes it to production and release sooner, figure about 4-6 months before it is released until you can order and prices/options will be firmed up. Now package details/prices will trickle in between now and when you can really order so that may give you an idea, but honestly by the time that every detail is know you'll be able to really order from the dealer.

Right now just figure anywhere from Early to mid 2008 before you can place a "real" order from the dealer. Assume $30K-$34K for a fully loaded Camaro V8, unless some 500hp motor option is available tack on about $8-$10K for that, now just figure close to that price and budget away!

Notice I say "really" order several times. Talked and emailed over a dozen dealers and they are clueless, but I have order two new release cars and you cannot order until the car is in the computer which is 4-6 months prior to release. None will take a deposit right now, there simply is no way for them to place an order. They all said they will keep in touch and I should do the same....

If you plan to spec one out through your dealer, assuming that this will be available, you will at least know then. Which will be about 6 weeks plus from delivery. But, with the demand and GM wanting to get the cars on the lots, who really knows. Here's a question I'd like to have answered though.

Will we be able to spec out cars in the beginning or are they only going to be lot fillers? Based on what I have read here, people are anticipating and expecting to go into their dealers and order their options rather than pick one off the lot.

I have order two cars (PT Cruiser, Mini Cooper S) before they were available, and if you want to not get gouged on the price, then by all means contact a few dealers and find out when you can order (although we will know here first). If you wait until the car is out, you probably will not be able to get one, and if so you will pay thousands over sticker for it. If you wait 6 weeks prior to delivery to order, you will be waiting awhile.

I ordered our PT Cruiser about 4/5 months before it was on the showroom floor and my Mini Cooper about 6 months before. I was able to fully spec both cars as I wanted and my PT was really neat as the window sticker had my name on it and that it was built just for me. They also provide me with the VIN# and website so you can see when your car is scheduled for production, when it is being build and track it down the road as it is being shipped just like a package from UPS!!!

The dealer called me on my PT when in was in transit to make sure I still wanted it, and offered back my $1000 deposit along with additional $1500 if I passed on buying it, now that you can get them a dime a dozen I should have taken that deal!

I thought you could always order any car with whatever options you wanted? Not just walk onto a lot and buy what they have.

You are correct! Just most people never do that because they want it now!! With a new release, order as soon as you can, find a dealer that will sell it at MSRP and you will be the first to have one. That is my plan!
