went to the track bone stock....
Ok, I did it... I am not too happy but I cant complain...
Here are the numbers:
Time-------6:43
R/T--------.878
60'---------2.190
330--------5.958
1/8--------8.959
MPH-------82.34
1000------11.513
1/4--------13.663
MPH-------105.03
So... the MPH is there.. the ET was not.. But this was Houston and it was fresh from the 1 hour 20 minute drive...
This is exactly what I did... Drove to the location (about 63 miles).
Went straigh to tech.. Then got into the staging lanes. Car was only off for about 3 minutes at Tech.. Rolled up with just a dry hop as it had just been driven for over an hour so the tires should of been sticky.. Staged, kept RPMS down at 1600 and launched on the last yellow.. That was the best time it would run all night.. My 60' wasnt great but I will be getting some DR's to launch this thing better at a higher RPM.. My MPH is there..
My next run had me next to a bone stock 2002 T/A auto. I have not stopped to pit.. This is my scond run of the night 9 minutes after the first run. Same stage. Since I have a Fbody next to me, I decide to try and launch at about 1800 RPM.. That was not a good move.. I spun for a bit but didnt get out of it, I waited till it hooked. Which shows in my 60'.
Time--------6:52
Cars--------My Z28--------2002 T/A
R/T--------.769----------.602
60'--------2.380----------2.154
330--------6.129----------5.997
1/8--------9.124----------9.097
MPH--------82.59----------80.48
1000--------11.676----------11.708
1/4--------13.824----------13.900
MPH--------105.18----------102.25
Again the MPH is there.. So... That was my night.. Given that he car was hot and there was enough moisture in the air since it even sprinkled while we were out there, I think it did ok.. I know it can go faster in the cold but I need to get its launches down regardless (damn I miss my Yokohamas!)
It didnt seem to cool down at all for the hour that I parked it.. I didnt ICE it down as I wanted some real world numbers. I think I will leave it stock for a few more weeks and get it out there when it cools down a bit and when I have more than 2 hours to drive it.. Thats just rushing it too much since it was bracket racing night and I got there at about 6:30 and races started at 8pm..
I am realisticly hoping to see 13.3's since I got a 13.66 hot.. Maybe at about 107 mph. I'll of course, let you all know..

yeah.. colder air will help alot too.. moisture rich hot air (was in the high 80's but feels like temp was in the 90's) doesnt help make any power...
I will try again with cooler air on a sunday when I can get there early and run 2 times per hour... that should get a few good runs in..
I will also experiment with filter out as that is how we would run my friends L98 at the track.

Psycho Cabbage,
I've been following a lot of your posts recently and I really like what your doing with your car. I'm actually doing the same thing with my 2002 M6 Z28(bone stock dyno, bone stock 1/4 mile, etc...). I'll then add some bolt-on's to kinda do a test n' tune type of thing although I'm not sure how far I will go. Only difference is your probably a much better driver than me since I've "only" been driving stick since I got my car 2 1/2 months ago. NO prior experience with a manual tranmission before this car. Just need some more practice and miles(only 1,500).
BTW, you'll have no problem running 13.2-13.3 on stock tires with better launches while trapping somewhere around 107-108 "bone stock" in a LOT cooler weather later in the fall. I've seen it done many times before.
Aren't these LS1's simply awesome in pure factory form?!

Air quality is so often overlooked. I was at Joliet for a Saturday bracket race. I mad a 13.701 run early on. Everybody picked up speed at the air qot better. It was still mid 94 degrees with 90% humidity. The car picked up so much speed between runs that I had to get off the gas so I did not run faster than my dial time. At one point, I caught my opponent (95 Mustang) and matched his speed, crossing the finish line at 95mph just ahead of him. I still pulled a 13.669. The car was more than a tenth of a second faster mainly due to the change in air quality. These cars are excelent bracket racers. they are fast and dead on consistent. I easily regulated my speed. You don't want to win by any more than you have to. To fast, and you are disqualified. I highly recomend it. M6 is not as consistent as A4, but it still is a blast.

How far you planning on going? I will probably stop when it runs 11's or really low 12's daily.. so I am not going far.. At this point I need to watch my $$ till I decide what direction I am going.. Going to the Lingenfelter authorized shop and talking to Lingenfelter owners made me start to think of a power added car.. One said his is a daily driver, its 500+ hp and NA!! Dyno sheet was in the window.. hood up.. Lingenfelter signed...
Once I decide what direction to go, I will start hanging out at dynos and adding my parts while dynoing..
I refuse to dyno or track test anything while my computer is learning.. if I know it will need to learn then I will wait till its been driven a week or so..
But the thing I guess I am looking for is reliable.. I would be happy at 450hp.. But of course thats what I say now based on my current financial status.. If i win lotto it will need to be a 6 sec car.. hehe
As for these car, heck yeah! 27mpg is insane.. I used to look at the 4cyl Lotus and think that having a zippy car and getting that kind of gas mileage would of been kewl.. now I have it.. and 4 extra cylinders to boot! YAY me!
I have been driving stick since I learned to drive.. in europe I got spend lots of time driving tons of cars... was lots of fun.. You will get better with practice... but make sure you are LEARNING from every experience.. try different RPMS for your launches.. when you shift, note your hand position and at what direction you are pushing... practice while daily driving.. in slow motion.. make it part of your naturl movement..
BE THE SHIFTER!
hehe
Right on!! Glad to see your numbers!!
I'd be pretty happy with those numbers if I were you, and especially since you never really gave the car time to cool down!
I'm also glad to see another F-body running close to my time (13.9 vs. 14.1) --- I don't feel quite as bad about my 14.1, and I know that the track prep sucked, and it was pretty humid at the track when I was there last month. I've now got a new lid (and a K&N - just because!
) and I hope to pull off a 13.something the next time I go to the track, which will "hopefully" be tomorrow, but there's a chance of rain, so it may have to wait a week or two
.
That's cool what you're doing with your car though --- dyno/track testing every step of the way. I can't really afford to dyno test my car right now, but at least I've got a bone-stock track time, and so at least I have something to compare as I add more and more to the car. One day, I'd like to build a stroker (one day!!!!
) for the car, and along with that install a nice lumpy cam and true duals!!
I want my car to sound like it has a "real" 350 in it - not a done up 2.8L V6
!!
Also, 11's sound like a nice number for a daily-driver to run!

Thanks for the advice man. I could barely even move the car the first night I tried driving it(probably stalled it 20 times) and now I can launch this baby hard or do a nice big WOT downshift without hardly any worry. Although I still tend to "think" too much when driving aggressively rather than just having the "feel" for doing it correctly. Of course, this will all improve over time with more and more practice. Like you said, daily-driving will be my best time to learn since this is my only car. Sometimes the stick can be frustrating for me(since I'm still learning) but it is WAY more fun than my old 2000 A4 Z28.
I can't wait to run this car in the cold Illinois spring weather.
After all of the stock stuff is done, I'll probably just progress with some basic bolt-on's. Torwards the end, I'd like to go with a nice cam(and tuning) to complement my set-up. But this will mostly be a daily-driven street car and only see the strip occasionally with good weather. I don't want an unreliable cam, 12-bolt whine, rougher clutch, off-road pipes, weight reduction, etc... That is a good idea to give the car a couple hundred miles after certain modifications to allow the computer to re-learn the new power. Good luck with your project and I look forward to seeing how your car does in the future. Hopefully, I'll get a good website up detailing my project.
BTW, what color is your Camaro? Mine is Onyx Black.

How many miles on your Z, psycocabbage? I had a 99 Z28 M6 & it went 13.4 @ 106 with 1100 miles on it & dynoed 302 at the wheels, very similar to yours!! The best time i had when it was stock was a 13.1 @ 108.6 After a few mods & a few times at the track the car eventualy made it into the 12.s (12.8 @ 112.4), with an open Borla, nitto drag radials , MTI induction w/ K&N, all free mods. Now I have an 02 SS 6 speed with 1000 miles on the clock, it went 13.1 @109, but my car has an SLP center mount exhaust & bigger tires & i know how to drive the car !!(I think the exhaust has a lot to do with it too.) , my 60' was a 2.09. I just bought some nitto drag radials i want to try out soon.
