I will throw in my two cents... z284ever i am with you. If it weights more than 3600lbs... I'll keep my 4th gen and it will have all the power it needs...

I mean... for gods sake.. the GTO with 436rwhp here does around mid 12s @ 114 or so mph?? WTF? I mean.. we had an ls1 camaro SS 6 speed with an underdrive pulley that only did 322rwhp doing 13.1@108mph...

I'd rather have the lower weight car than the heavier one sorry. GM listen... do not kill the camaro with excessive weight. I am sure anyways that you guys know the weight issue and if it comes out the weight it does is simply due to standards related but I am a bit worried since the platform is a zeta platform that it will come out a tad heavy. Lets hope that the b-pillar design dropped some weight on it... The G8 is a pig... ITS A FREAKING PIG and i really love gm cars yet i wouldn't buy one for its weight... Even the CTS-v 2004 is a tad pig yet you can understand its weight for being the type of car that it is and I really want one, but waiting on what the camaro comes on. If its too heavy, i'll get the caddy that is 4 doors looks AWESOME, lighter and has all the brembo goodies already.

Honestly... i will rather buy a used corvette (c5 z06) than a new camaro just for weight alone.

Ill never own a Mustang. I will never put my hard earned money towards a Mustang, ever. With that, a 4k Camaro better be with me in it, the gf, 2 suit cases, full tank of gas and fluids topped off....

Looking at the pictures right there, Id say that Camaro will be in the 180-190 inch range total, and well under 3900lbs. If and when we get a loaded supercharged super Camaro, I would not be surprised for Camaro to slowly tip 2 tons.
Id like to see a GT2/GT3 type attack, a ZR1/Z06 type thing with Camaro. One is NA peformance machine, the other is a scary forced induction ride.
Not gunna happen....but if all things were perfect...

Sure it would really be a Camaro. The Camaro was never a small car. At 4000 pounds, it would still have grown less than either small cars or family cars. Back in 1985, a Civic weighed 2000-2100 pounds. Is a 2800 pound Civic still really a Civic?

That's not to say that I would want a Camaro to weigh 2 tons. But everything has gotten heavier. What we're asking is for Camaro to buck the trend.

No problem. You're 5'7"/135, and your gf is 5'3"/100, and you pack light, right?

Just avoid the moonroof and the power seats and giant stereo and wheels.

Doug, you have made your point and it's a good one. But know your audience this isn't a GM Design or engineering meeting and the participants are certainly not all on the same playing field. This is much harder. Many will judge the vehicles in question simply by looks alone from pictures and how it's preceived but that's just day one in design application 101.
The Challenger is a bigger and now known heavier car than the 4th Gen f-bodies. There should be no agruement to that based on all the known info on both cars. Yet thats not quite how it happens on the net.

Bingo, huge point made here! A Camaro made under strict GM budget constraints in 2009 is still made for this day in age and better than none made at all.

Seriously. Maybe if that was a lamborghini next to the challenger, but a 4th gen ain't that much shorter.

It's almost 6 inches shorter......for those who are clueless as to perspective.....

A 2 ton Camaro. I'm pretty sure all the regulars know how I feel about that.

Am I going to care if someone's SUV weighs 5100 lbs or 5400? No not really. Am I really going to care if the family sedan gains 200 lbs? Not so much. Am I going to care if the Camaro weighs 4100 lbs instead of 3500? Oh man, you'd better believe it!!
Because the Camaro's essence is about driving fun. And weight is inversely proportional to driving fun. And I don't care how much power you add, how you tuned the chassis, what sort of massive brakes you might have - you will never, NEVER, NEVER overcome that added mass.

Is a two ton Camaro a Camaro? Not to me. Would I buy one? We'll see. But it would not be a car I would lust after and covet. And more importantly, it would not be a car which GM could tolerate to keep in production for very long, given CAFE legislation.

Way off on me (6'1 240), close with the gf.
Hell, for a week, all I need are 7 pairs of boxers couple pairs of jeans and a few shirts.
The gf on the other hand....

Funny how the only pictures of Camaros posted are where they are sitting behind a larger car.

Anyway I took a whack at adjusting the perspective of these pics. 100% eyeballed and inaccurate, but it should give you an idea of their relative heights at least. (widths are off)

It looks quite abit smaller in that pic. Actually though, except for height, those two cars are similar in size.

I'd imagine that the Camaros mechanical components are heavier than the Avenger's though.
