Well.. i think the only thing that will put my weight issues to rest is what it laps at the ring...

If a cobalt SS does 8:22....... hmm....

If caddy is getting an alpha platform for the upcoming BTS then I think that no other GM vehicle should use the platform...

The only reason bmw, lexus and mercedes is that they rarely share platforms on their vehicles. So the ride of a car is exclusive to it.

After seeing a few of the video clips around about the development of the camaro i've had sort of a change of heart towards the camaro. I think gm wants to get it right and I now have a LOT of expectations for the Z28. I know the Z28 will be no nonsense car.

So i am holding out on the z28.

Anyways.

GM should stop the batch engineering on their top tier units like caddy.
I see what you're saying, and part of me sort of agrees - to a point.

Infiniti has been able to share platforms/powertrains very effectively with Nissan. As has Lexus with Toyota.
BMW? Well, they do have Mini. And you can find lots of the BMW "feel" in a Mini.

Getting back to Cadillac...

Although Cadillac's cupboards won't be totally bare, it's going to need some more product to better define itself (both here and globally), and soon. Now that the Caddy's Zeta appears dead, GM should focus resources on Alpha and a 3series/C-class/G37/IS competitor for Cadillac. This product certainly would have greater global relevance at the moment, for Cadillac's image, than a large 118" wheelbase Zeta would.

And if this architecture would be somehow shared with a 6th gen Camaro, that certainly wouldn't be the end of the world.

Lame poll based on poor speculation and lies with FUD mixed in. The Camaro will weigh less than 4,000 lbs and a 3500 lbs Mustang is speculation at best.

Grow up.

A lot of things would have to change in this world for me to willingly purchase and drive a Mustang. I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Not to say they are bad cars...they are not. They are just not for me.

Told ya the Camaro wasn't going to be 4000 pounds unless it was the top supercharged version.

The thing still will get to 60 in the low 4 second range, still gets fantastic fuel economy fot a 400+ horsepower performance car, and still carve the living daylights out of perhaps the world's mosr famous and difficult road course.

With GM scavinging fop cash just to say operational, the Alpha is all but shelved.

The weight issue is dead.

Let's enjoy the living **** out of the new Camaro now that it's here and while it lasts and quit bellyaching about a a arbitrary weight number!

Thanks for the info Guy.

Did you happen to check the date of this thread?

BTW, I wouldn't be surprised if we hear about a new, smaller, RWD architecture being worked on by GM, after the first of the year.

I wouldn't be surprised either way. Cadillac really needs it, and other divisions could benefit too. But it can't be the #1 corporate priority.

GM needs to watch its cash very carefully, while not spreading themselves too thin over too many projects. I'd rather GM not do Alpha than to have them try to do it with a skeleton engineering crew, and I'd rather GM not do Alpha than to go Chapter 11 due to excessive development and intro costs from trying to do too much. They're walking a thin line, and overinvesting in new models could be just as fatal in underinvesting.

Yeah and as a recent owner of 4 Nissans (and friends with Infinitis) I can honestly say that the problems that plague their Nissan line are mirrored in the Infiniti line.

Of course.

But Alpha will be critically important for both Cadillac and GM. I'd hope they'd do it right.

But you never know, GM has shoveled billions into black holes before - and I doubt that the comatose GM Board of Directors are even awake yet.
