Agreed! It was the same way for the mustang, for me. Except Mustang went for the regular mustang look, where as the Camaro went for the new design.

The taillights in the sketch seem a BIT viperish.. but i'm sure it'd be cooler in person.

Leg room in 3rd/4th gens is fine, as long as you're not an adult. Certainly more roomy than a Mitsubishi 3000gt O_O

Mustangs have less rear room I believe.. Impossible to even enjoy the ride back there.

As far as the Camaro up against the old school Camaro.. that is ****ing sexy. It makes the '69 look like a pansy. The new camaro is no doubt BEAUTIFUL. It's not like any other car out there, really.

I just hope they don't take away from the front seats legroom to do so. My 2002 Camaro had the perfect amount of legroom up front. Mustangs seemed to have more legroom in the rear (at least the couple I managed to force myself to step into), but had less room up front and I found them uncomfortable. I'm 6' tall, not 5' 6"...

But my current little put put mobile has no more legroom than my Camaro in the rear. And my 1995 Cavalier didn't have much more either.
The previous generation Mudstain has significant problems in the front legroom area.

Ford uses a different knee bolster/anti-submarine philosophy than GM does, which is why their cars traditionally cause guys my size (6'3" 250lbs.) to hit their knees on the bolsters - which is damned uncomfortable, btw...

I don't think the lack of room in the back was the main factor that negatively effected everyday drivability in the 4th gens. The long nose and low seating position scared off a lot of people, and was probably 100 times more important as far as daily driving is concerned.

Great article. Best I've seen so far on the 5th gen.

The picture with the ZL1 next to the Camaro concept is fantastic, and shows clearly why my skin crawls whenever someone calls the new car "retro". The new car is futuristic, not retro. GM designers did a absolutely fantastic job of bridging Camaro's historic progressive design over it's previous edition, while making the car undenieably Camaro. It's exactly what you'd expect a modern Camaro to look like if GM hadn't completely changed Camaro's direction with the 2nd gen.

Pacer's comment about the new Camaro looking like it would eat the ZL1 if left in a room alone long enough is not only very fitting, but also funny as h*ll.

Agreed. Addressing those concerns would make more sense than giving it a bigger back seat. Rear leg room isn't much of a factor in a car marketed toward singles and childless couples (who want to bring friends along in a pinch, but not every day).

That said, I like my car's long nose and low seating!
