Why on earth would GM take a bold new Camaro concept car that 90% of the public liked and CHANGE it? 90% is unprecedented, we cant have that. This prototype is a femeninized (is that a word? F it, if G.W. can make up words, so can I, and I can spell it any way I want) version of the most highly anticipated new release in GMs history. I highly doubt that the V6 and V8 versions will have different quarter panels. I can just see the headlines now: GMs multi-billion dollar annual losses continue into 2010 despite the arrival of the new Camaro (albeit, a watered down version of the Camaro concept show car, which originally drew an unprecedented 90% positive public response).

Reduced? Yes. Seriously reduced, or 80% reduced as others claim? Hardly. Just look at the photo of one prototype below.
Those hips appear much more significant than the ones in the all-white prototype. Why is that? Two different bodies? While yes they are more than likely two different prototypes, they are certainly not two different body designs. No, we can certainly chalk it up to different angles, paint schemes and lighting.

I'm holding out judgement until we see a proper photo of the prototype(s). The rest of you are falling into what I like to call the chicken little segment. Go ahead and complain all you want. Heck threaten to buy a Mustang, Challenger or Corvette for all I care. However, come back a year from now and say you're buying a Camaro, and I want to see some serious crow eating... without ketchup.

 

I'm sorry but you my friend are a lost cause and come off as if you are simply looking for a reason to complain about the production Camaro.

 

Who knew? They took 2 or 2.5 inches off of the rear quarter panel buldge on each side. Sorry, but it looks like the women are having their way on the new Camaro design team.

I agree 100%. However critiquing a poor photo of a semi-disguised prototype serves what purpose? Wouldn't we be better off waiting for a good photo of the preproduction prototype?

 

While I disagree with you, if the reason the car was narrower was because it better appealed to women, who would buy the V6 Camaro in hoards (think Mustang) then I would be all for it.

The more Camaro's that sell, the better. I think those who are disappointed will not be once a real picture is released with proper paint and lighting.

Not to mention, the presence of the rear camo is really messing with many of your eyes! It always surprises me how many people have trouble visualizing, looking beyond what is right in there face (i.e. a blurry photo of a white camouflaged car with bad light).

I for one am a happy man today!

 

Have you really looked at any of the other prototype pics? Why do you continue to base your objections/answers on the one crappy pic of the white prototype when there are many other prototype pics to draw opinions from. Like some others on all the forums, the sky is falling, the sky is falling, when perfectly good prototype pics are available for intelligent observation/comparison.

Sorry, your previous comments in this thread make it sound, to me, as if what you're really doing is working yourself up to be happier about a GTO purchase. Which is all fine and good. I happen to think the GTO is a great looking car. Understated, but I like that. So many cars these days are OVER styled. Be happy with your car, it's a good one. And it's only simple modifications away from being a Z28.

 

Hopefully, we will get a quality spy shot in the not to distant future. I have a feeling that Ed Welburn was strategically placed were he was hugging the zebra camo car for exactly this reason (hide the production car hips).

You know -- I've been in this business for so long -- and some of what I'm reading here would be humorous if it weren't so sad/pathetic/saidagajilliontimesbefore.

When I was a puppy -- I remember going over to my Grandfather's garage -- and in that garage was one of the first 1960 Chevrolets that was shipped to my uncle's dealership. No one had seen them yet....and I was horrified. I thought the 58s and 59s were beautiful (so I was all of the age of 4 and 5 and 6 -- so sue me.....) --- and the 1960 actually had me in tears -- I thought it was HIDEOUS!!!! (and we sold a ton of 'em and a few months later I thought my Mom's Parkwood Wagon was the cat's jammies.......)

Fast forward a few years -- spy pics of the 68 Chevelle and Caprice-- again -- horrified -- and yet those are now two of my all-time favorite classic Chevrolets...

1977 Downsized Caprice -- people went berserk -- "GM will be out of business by the end of the year !!" cried a few people in hysterics.....-- yet we sold them in STUPID HUGE numbers.

2nd gen Camaros -- people would walk into the showroom and either throw up or hug it - -and yet the 2nd gen has the highest number of Camaros and Firebirds ever built.

Spy pics of C5 Corvette -- a lynch mob over spy pics. Hugely successful.

Spy pics of C6 Corvette -- some of the very people complaining today were screaming like speared banshees -- and yet, very successful.

2002 Camaro 35th Anniversary Camaro -- we unveiled it at Carlisle and people kept coming up to me with all kinds of kudos with exception of three people -- (well - actually a few were upset that we didn't put the
LS6 engine in it...) -- and one lady was CERTAIN we'd just start to build 1969 Camaros for the anniversary (??????)

I got back to the hotel room after a veryyy long day -- very happy at the way the cars were received -- logged onto this site -- and we were being crucified!!!!. Funny thing...they sold out to the point where we could have built 10,000 of them and sold every one......and some of the very people that were screaming "$59 dollar decal package!!!" were the very ones then screaming that I couldn't build theirs fast enough!

So......yup -- you're allowed an opinion....but please keep in mind that Jason has an archive -- and you just may look silly in a year or so.........

What makes you think we're DONE???? What makes you think that what you're looking at has received final parts? What makes you think we're not sweating every detail -- What makes you think the cars have complete taillamps and exhaust tips and trim pieces??? (......see -- unless you're IN the auto industry -- you probably don't know that it's entirely possible that the headlights underneath that bra are off the shelf headlights - and NOT the ones we're gonna use....)

OK........that's my 2 cents (not adjusted for inflation) for the day.
