Wait for the 6th, quitchercomplaining. Cut them some slack, and give them the credit they deserve. It's one thing to have an opinion and to not like it, but dang some of the responses people give are just downright disgusting and seems like average GM-bashing.
I don't think that is the case at all. It sounds like you want everyone to say "great job GM, I'll have my deposit ready" and anyone who does not like it is GM bashing. Who wants to wait another 10 years for another generation of Camaro? I will give credit to GM when this car is still around for a 6th gen and is a stong seller. If the car does great a few years after the release, then I will say that GM made a good move, I may not have liked it, but it was a good move for the company and car. Until then, I will be focusing on getting a used Corvette.

I know the Camaro concept is retro, believe me.
Sorry I was talking about the Charger, I thought you were asking about it.

Perhaps I'm biased, but I liked the LT1 bodystyle better. It looked like a reasonable and sleeker evolution of the thirdgen. Long doors being 70's?? Give me a break. The headlights on an LS1 car look more like a late model Chrysler than '79 headlights.

From what i see on this 5th gen, it looks HELLUVA more refined than the 4th gen case closed.
Perhaps this is why GM got their asses kicked regarding F-body sales in the first place. The car buying public does not want to [i]give and take[/B]. If they find a car that they have to give and take with, they'll go down the street to the Ford dealer, or Chrysler, Toyota, Nissan, BMW, even dare I say it VW, and keep shopping until they find something that fits.

Unfortunately it seems to me like if GM is going to be successful with this design it's going to be due to the people who buy it just because it's a Camaro, the people who are so excited that GM brought the camaro back they will buy it for that fact alone. You don't have to look very closely at this thread to find those exact undertones jumping out at you.

I do sincerely hope the styling looks better to me in person, and it grows on me. Time will tell.

Re: Am I the only one Dissapointed in retro???

It might grow on people. As a third Gen owner, I remember when they brought out the '93 Camaro. I hated it. Thought it looked like a wanna be Corvette, minus the styling and grace that Corvette's have. I got used to it, and by '96 really came to appreciate the SS and RS looks (amazing what some well executed body mods can do). On the other hand, I thought the Mustang concept looked bad ***, then lost much of it's sexiness in the finished product.

Time will tell, but I for one, really dig the new Camaro concept. I see a ton of third gen style in it, and since I think that the third gen was probably the best LOOKING generation of all, I am positively thrilled with the car.

Please see post 64. If you were to take a 79 front end and put glass between the two headlights on one side you would have something similar. I think I know the Chrysler headlights your talking about which are thicker and I dont agree.

Im biased to the 69. People are going to buy it simply because it looks like a 69 with an LS2

Giving and taking in an opinionated arguement is really quite the crisis this matter is 100% subjective. Id much rather give and take in something thats simple opinion, vs. fact, IE all the stuff that was cheap and prone to failure in the 4th gens

Re: Am I the only one Dissapointed in retro???

This is not at all unusual. Even Scott stated it. He figured half would like it and half not. After some time most folks would come around to liking it. Some never will. I remember the first time I saw a 4th gen. I didn't like it. I thought it looked like a door stop. I ended up buying one and loving the design. So, you never know.

I'm giddy as a kid on Christmas eve. Been following this for so long I'm happy to see it finally arrive. Helps that I like the design too.

I love this...everyone said it has to scream Camaro in the look of it.
Well GM gives us the Camaro and everyone says it looks like a retro car from 69..

Almost all of the sketches at CnG had one thing in it that everyone loved the front grill of a 69 Camaro.it was there in some shape or form, heck even Hot wheels had the Muslce Tone concept that looked like a Camaro. That is what people think when they think muscle car Camaro the 69 front end..The car looks like Camaro..and it should..tell me how should it look? more sleeker than the 4th gen? GUYS THATS THE BIG COMPLAINT THE GENERAL PUBLIC SAID THEY DIDNT BUY ONE CUS OF ITS COCKPIT AND FIGHTERJET STYLING AND SEATING!! So why go one step more? So take a step back. Listen to what was wrong with the car. Bring back what people remember. The car has a big 3rd gen look in it on the sides and the front fenders, the rear half says 2nd gen to me. all spooled up to the front that says Camaro..all rolled up into an edgy style that blends all this together...it is Camaro..call it Retro call it whatever you want but it is Camaro..
Like I said before american car companies need to start creating american designs for their cars and not egg shaped import copies..well the great designs that american companies did were classic designs..they took these and created a new car..retro or whatever you want to call it..its american styling..nothing more..

Re: Am I the only one Dissapointed in retro???

I am not liking the retro and really expected more from this car. I hope alot changes from now to production. I saw so many concepts that looked better than this. That's OK, Third Gens and real 1st Gens still look better and had bigger impacts than this retro mobile will. I do see a little Third Gen in the car, but come on, that car is 90% 1st Gen after we were told that it would not be like that.

You are forgetting that most people have no idea what a first gen Camaro looks like. If you want to have the most recognizable camaro, then it should have been a 3rd gen copy.

You are taking the stance that there is no other option than to go more "sleek" than a 4th gen or go retro. There are many other options to reverting back to a 1st gen. The reason the design is the way it is has to do completely with the '05 Mustang.

You speak about creating American designs and getting back to what America is good at but since when has America been about copying others or dwelling in the past?

I give up, retro rules, let's just re-do everything.

I think it does have a fair amount of 3rd gen in it, I like it's looks anyway and I'm a big 3rd gen fan...

This isn't a re-do, that's the Challenger. This is a modern car with some styling cues to the past, largely cues from the '69 but it certainly is not a re-do in my opinion...

You know, recently I am comming to appreciate the 3rd gen again with driving the Formula (my first car was an 86' Camaro that had the appearence of an IROC). I think what I like the most about that car is that it looks very lean. It looks mean and lean. Cars are getting so bloated and bulky. Some of it may be from crash standards and other regulations but some of it is just in the styling. The concept looks fat and doesn't have that racing, nimble look to it. It looks like a heavy, old muscle car.

Re: Am I the only one Dissapointed in retro???

I would be very interested to see this new car sitting next to a 4thgen and a 3rdgen IROC or something, just to get a real accurate feeling and a good perspective of the size and heft of the new one. I guess I'm not getting the "it's huge" vibe from the pictures, but if it turns out to be really big and bloated looking when there is something to directly compare it to that will be a real downside to the design... I think I personally will still really dig it with the sharp creases and muscular chiselled look it has going on, but if it looks/feels like a leadsled (like I think the Challenger does/will) that will be a big negative.

It certainly doesn't look much like a 3rdgen Formula I'll give you that, that is a very sweet sleek design with just classic proportions IMO that I really dig.
