Am I the only one Dissapointed in retro???
Re: Am I the only one Dissapointed in retro???
Thats exactly what I thought. 4th gen fans need a two seater cheap areo dynamic fighter jet that can be shortened even more by loosing the rear seats. Probably could be done Kappa coupe, but I dont know how big that market would be. Also 90% fans here like the concept, I dont know how much buisness case there is building a car that might or might not capture part of the 10% lost.
I'm not a fan of this "no overhang" trend that every car company except the very elite and expensive are following. The Ferrari Enzo, Aston Martin DB9 and V8 Vantage, Jaguar XK, Mercedes SLR, and Maserati MC12 among other new cars have giant overhangs and they still look beautiful. Why not have a car that isn't $500,000+ with some of those features? If GM gave us a Mercedes SL sized 4th gen inspired 2 seater, I'd buy it in oh... about 1/5 of a second!
Call it a Fiero, call it a Feretta, call it a Tomcat, I don't care, just make something like that GM!

EDIT: What you said got me inspired, how about something that kind of looks like that old Stringray III concept car? That would be bad ***! Call me stuck in the 90s, but I bet there are a few people who aren't just Camaro fans who miss the older wedge shaped cars
. Might even pick up some old 1983 RX-7 owners with this one GM
.

Why don't you just step up to the Vette? It's the bigger two seater coupe w/ plenty of trunk/hatch space, performance to boot, and the kind of styling it sounds like you want... I mean really, that's the Aston Martin/Sports car competitor. And you won't have to wait 2-3 years for it to be produced...
Re: Am I the only one Dissapointed in retro???
ok here goes.
Ever since i first heard about the possibility of the Camaro concept ive had basically what they did in mind. ive posted that on many other forums for proof. and what they did is exactly what i thought.
They took small design cues from previous generations (minus the 80's) and incorporated them into one hell of a sweet looking car.
not only is it sorta flashbacky, but its very futuristic, sleek, and mean. Those of you who say this car is retro, arent wrong, but arent right. its not pure retro like the Stang/Challenger/Miura. its a car that is able to evolve slowly and surely as the times change, stang doesnt have anywhere to go, nor will the Challenger when it comes time for a facelift for that vehicle.
"the camaro may be late to the party, but the Stang and Challenger will be passed out drunk and all the chicks will have left them, but still be horny for sober fresh blood, and the camaro will be that shiny new guy in a pimp suit whose alcohol tolerance is infinite."
^i made that up, but the camaro can get facelifted easily without people yelling "but it doesnt look like the old one anymore" because the current concept only has small cues.
critique what i said or what not

How is a concept that is based off a 40 year old car going to excite people who don't like Camaros in the first place or even know what a 1st gen looks like.
In the end, Camaro has to appeal to a wider audience, we all know that. But I think you might be expecting Camaro to reach to too wide of an audience just based on design alone. The Camaro is not going to appeal to, say, a Toyota Camry driver no matter how you style the car....IF it is going to retain the other characteristics that make a Camaro a Camaro.
It has to appeal to those who are looking for sporty, fun, semi-practical and value priced vehicles. But that probably eliminates half the population of the US right there!

good post Z28 Wilson..
"If the car is "based" on a really good looking car from 37 years ago, but some people don't know it, doesn't that work for the new car? If people don't know what a 1st Gen Camaro looks like they won't even understand the level of "retro" in it."
It is true..but im holding to my thoughts that Camaro and Mustang are soul mates till the end of the pony car wars. they did that with the 4th gen and look what happened it became out of site out of mind while the mustang sales kept going up and more people saying to us (that dont know) "Hey nice Corvette"...yes I got that compliment more times that I would like...

I am a 05 Stang owner I hope like hell that GM comes back out with the Camaro sooner rather than later. I like the way the new concept Camaro looks except for the grill and the side mirrors. To me it's just not the same without the pony rivalry's so GM get of your a** and make this thing happen.
Re: Am I the only one Dissapointed in retro???
turbo and 5th gen...
you can take it how you will but they are yin and yang...Peanut butter and jelly..6 in one hand 1/2 dozen in the other. They feed off one another if you dont see how they one up one another and we benifit from it. That is what I mean by that...make all the faces you want but without the Camaro around Mustang looses some of its aura, and the same would go if Mustang was the one that dissapeard in 02...

The biggest dissapointment I have is recalling the first time a saw a 4th gen. This was the first time I had seen the intoduction of a Camaro and I was totally blown away. It looked so cool and looked like nothing I had ever seen and nothing else on the road bar none. I said that instant that I would have to buy that car. I truely am saddened that I can't say the same for this car.
It is good I guess that this car seems to be liked by most f-body enthusiasts and it shows that GM didn't alienate thier past fans but that is little consolation to me.

I could not have said it better. The Big Three should find some imagination. Kind of like Hollywood and their tendacy toward movie sequals. It seems that no one in this country has imagination anymore.
An evolution from the 4th gen would be nice. NOT RETRO

Re: Am I the only one Dissapointed in retro???
Hey guys (those of you, who, like me, are disappointed in the concept's looks/proportions), I just posted a very extensive revision of the concept in a thread that relates to this one slightly. I'd like to see what you guys think of it. I fixed every single problem I had with it that was fixable. I would have preferred a 4th gen evolution, but I think with what we were given, I have fixed every single problem I had with it.

I also drew a Kappa based "4th gen fighter jet" car that I will be posting in this topic in a few minutes. I never considered that Chevy could make a wedge-shaped car on the Kappa platform, make it look kind of like a 4th gen, and have it only have 2 seats, but I think I did a good job aside from my awful shading... hold please...
