Fuel Injected Big Block

Hey guys, I want to use fuel injection on my BBC that I'm putting in a 97 T/A. I know I can go with an aftermarket ECU like FAST or DFI and everything would be gravy. My question is can I use a LT1 or a LS1 PCM to control and tune the engine? To use these PCM's I need a cam sensor and I was wondering if there was something I was missing in my search for something that would be acceptable for either PCM to use to run SFI. If anyone knows of something that would work or if anyone has done this before please let me know how you did it. Thanks!

Take a look at the 8.1 Liter option that came in the gm trucks. Not sure what all would be envolved.. I had a 91 burban with a facotry 454 tbi. it ran very well...

Thanks for the heads up, but I wanted to stay away from a TBI setup. I know that the newer 96-00 burbs and trucks use OBD II, but I wasn't sure if I could convert them from TBI to SFI.

Re: Fuel Injected Big Block

The firing order won't be the same as I'm doing a 4/7 swap. I think there will be a lot of problems since the computer won't know when to fire the injectors because I don't have a cam sensor which I know the LT1 needs and gets through the opti. I have no clue where the LS1 gets it's cam signal from. The crank signal can be given from a trigger and using a trigger I can use a batch type injection.

The key for me here is WANT vs. NEED. I can use a distributor and run an aftermarket ECM without a problem, but I want to use a LTx or LSx PCM.

The LS1 has a cam position wheel on the camshaft. On the LS1 the sensor was on the rear of the block. On the LS2 they moved the sensor up front.

An aftermarket ECU will really simplify all the problems. With the FAST or the MoTeC you can run full sequential injection and run 8 LS1-style direct fire coils, relying on the cam position sensor. You can program any firing order you want. And providing the cam reference signal is as simple as putting a magnet (or magnets) in the cam sprocket and a pickup on the timing cover.

In fear of sounding lazy, is there something already out there in the aftermarket world that would simplify this? Without doing any research do the newer Vortec's use a CPS even though they have TBI?
