Tire recommendation solicited

I bought a 98 SS 1LE that is mostly stock. The tires on it are from 2001 and are all cracked up. I want something that grips well but isn’t real noisy (wife acceptance factor). I won’t race it but will drive it spirited once in a while. The tires will age out before they wear out so I’m not worried about that. How noisy are the Nitto NT01’s or 05’s? Or do I go directly to the Michelins? Size is 275/40/17

thanks

What driving conditions? Summer only, all season, high performance, etc.?

I generally go to Tire Rack and use “Tires by Size” to look at what is available in the various categories. Pick a tire, look at the specs, and opt for the rating comparison vs. other brands. Look for “CONSUMER SURVEYS”, under that is “See rating charts for all tires in this category”. In the comparison chart, click the “Comfort” item for a dropdown that includes “noise”.

Summer / good weather only. High performance but not super noisy.

Re: Tire recommendation solicited

You basically have to research the currently available tires on a site like Tire Rack. I had my Formula for 27 years. I ran 275/40-17’s on aftermarket wheels. But the BFG g-Force KDW all weathers that I ran at one point are not representative of current designs. So telling you they were great tires isn’t really helping you. Unless someone can provide their personal experience with currently available tires, their experience is of limited value.

Plus…. unfortunately, there are very few active members on this site any more.

I’d get the Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02. They’re extremely well reviewed and FAR less expensive than the Michelin.
