Unhappy Problem with TTIIs

Well, I just got my TTIIs in today and drove 120 miles home to get them, somehow managing to stuff two 275x17 and two 315x17 tires in my 02 camaro z28. I had pepboys mount all of tires on the wheels and I took eveything home. Well low and behold at about 9:30 PM I finally get the first wheel on. The front left. And it sticks out a lot. Next I try the rear right, and it, again sticks out. Needless to say I'm getting all sorts of pissed off. So I go back to American Racing's website where they list those wheels for 93+ Camaro/firebirds. The offsets are 46 front and 45 rear. I took a look at the tire and wheel info on this site and it says for a good looking fit it should be 56 front and 50 rear!

My question is what can I do about this? They don't have any wheels that size on their (americanracing.com) site. I'm not the type to go in and start bitching and yelling. I want a game plan so I can fix this and enjoy my Z28 and the new tires.

SOL, fantastic. Even if American Racing misrepresented it as being the offset for the Camaro? When I go to order the correct wheels what should I ask for?

You do reallize that 1mm is only 0.04"? This is not a case of "misrepresentation".

The wheels/tires on your car appear to site where they do on all the other TT-series wheels sit. The exact tire used will affect the appearance, since some "275" tires have a wider section width than others, and that affects how much the tire sidewall sticks out from the wheel lip.

The T/A with TT II's that used to link in the FAQ, had the same dimension wheels you have, and the car was without a doubt my favorite T/A of all time.

Here is another picture:

56mm front - 46mm = 10mm = 0.40" farther out of the fender

50mm rear - 45mm = 5mm = 0.20" farther out of the fender

56mm is the deepest you would want to go in the front. I've used my 5/16" drag wheel spacers in the front with my 56mm ZR1 wheels (equivalent to using a 48mm offset wheel), and they don't look objectional to me. I've used 49mm in the front, and they looked fine. Not a whole lot different than what your picture looks like. I've seen people run 35mm offsets in the front with the 9.5" wide wheels, and they are too far out for my taste, but many people like them out that far.

Note also that the numbers you picked up on in the FAQ (56/50mm) are in a discussion specific to the ZR1/GS offset wheels. The post that talks about acceptable ranges for offsets indicates the 45mm-56mm should "work", but notes that the smaller the offset, the farther toward the outside of the fender the wheel/tire will sit.

Verify the backspace of your front wheels. What is the exact tire you are using - manufacturer and model?

The back space for my wheels are 7" in the front and 7.75" on the rear.
Mounted on the front wheels are two Goodyear Eagle F1 275/40ZR17
Mounted on the back wheels are two Sumitomo HTR 35Z P315/35ZR17

Thanks again for your help.

My buddy is saying that once I lower it it'll look a whole lot better. I really love the setup, just doesn't look to pleasing to the eye and kinda half done. Do you have any pics of your trans am 69gto96z?

give it a drop and see where they sit. That isn't too bad but I can see why you aren't happy. The rears look pretty good though for the width tire you have.

Take some pics out of the garage where you are level with the car and at various angles.

Thanks for the advice guys. Last night after doing a lot of pondering I decided to put the fronts on the rear and keep the stocks on the front. Well my bro who was giving me a hand noticed that the front left (now the rear left) was different than the front right (now the rear right). Keep in mind that I only put on the left side wheels before I noticed how "wrong" it looked and then took them off. What had happened was that PepBoys put a 275 on my right rear and a 315 on my front left. Somehow I managed to put that 17x11 with the 275 on the front left and that's what the pics are of. Needless to say I'm going back to pepboys to straighten them out (the wheels and the employees).
