Extra Long mag shank on weld lug nuts...

reading over the FAQ, I see it says the stock rear wheel studs should be okay when using the special lug nuts specifically designed for draglites/prostarts as long as the backspacing is correct. Anyways, what are the rules for engagement on these lug nuts since it has that long shank. My wheel studs don't even reach the hex portion of the lug nuts and I have stripped out 3-4 studs when I tighted to 75-80ftlbs.

Thanks

Cody

NHRA requires (correctly) that the stud engage at least "one diameter" of the threads in the HEX portion of the lug. They do not give you any credit for the thread engagement in the shank. The end of the stud has to be at least 12mm (~1/2") into the HEX for a 12mm stud, and a full 1/2" into the HEX for a 1/2" stud.

You might also want to check with Weld... I'm not sure if they recommend 80 lb-ft with a 12mm stud. Its been so long since I tightened mine that I can't remember the correct number. It's written in my tool box, somewhere.
