bump stops?

I am putting 295-35-18 toyo T1R tires on the back of my z. I have 18x10.5 Z06 wheels, it looks to me like they are going to hit the bump stops, a friend of mine in his formula with 305's on the back pretty much cut his right out. Would that be ok on my car because it is lowered and has true duals so i think the exhaust would hit the pavement well before the bump stops do any good. Or should i just modify them to make them fit and leave them?

Re: bump stops?

You should be able to remove enough of the bumpstop to eliminate interference, assuming your wheels have an appropriate offset / enough backspace. You could use a spacer if necessary.

You definitely don't wanna remove your bump stops, though.

There's some pics on Injuneer's page showing what work is necessary to fit wide rear wheels.

Re: bump stops?

If you have zo6 wheels with oem vette offset you don't need to modify the bump stops they only hit when the suspension is at full droop. So unless you plan on pulling some dukes of hazzard recreations don't worry about it.

Re: bump stops?

Even though the bump stop bracket is tucked into the wheel, and doesn't hit it except at full drop, why run the risk of someone jacking the car up by the body and having the bump stop bracket catch the inner edge of the wheel when the axle drops? You would have to carry a jack with you that would allow you to raise the rear of the car by the axle to change a tire. Jacking it with the stock jack would not work.

I agree 100%!!!

IMO it doesn't require too much work to do it right... then you never have to worry about it.

Re: bump stops?

I will be putting my 17x11 zr1's on this weekend. I noticed one of my bump stops has rotted off (rubber part). So i'll be taking mine off for now until my new ones come in.

I just took it as the price to pay for properly installing 17x11's where the stock 16x8's (or 17x9's) used to be.

Once you've "massaged" the inner fenders a bit you feel a sense of relief, a catharsis, if you will...... you've now permanently personalized your car, and are free to go crazy with modifications.........

or at least that's how I felt about it!
