275/60/15 questions

I'm currently running 275/50/15 Nitto's and 255/50/16 BFG drags. Sold both sets and now I'm looking at getting 275/60/15 Mickey T drag radials.

-How much will these slow me down? I'm spraying a 100 shot, and I come through the traps just barely shifting into OD. Will the gear reduction cause me to benefit more than the added weight will slow me down?

-Will these clear my fenderwells?

Thanks in advance
-Matt

Not sure if they'll clear the fender well on a 4th gen, but a 2nd gen w/proper back spacing will handle them fine.

The taller sidewall should help with launches also.

It seems you're really into dragging, so why even run a radial?

Re: 275/60/15 questions

Should fit... that's a 28" tire. I had 28.0" QTP's on my Formula, and they filled the wheel wells, but didn't rub, at least not til the trap speeds went over 125mph and they grew enough to hit the metal edge of the front of the wheel opening. A radial tire shouldn't grow as much though. I was able to get rid of the interference by moving the axle back about 1/4" - 3/8".

The larger diameter is going to make it feel like you swapped the 3.73's for 3.42's.

Re: 275/60/15 questions

Got them on today without any issues

One weird thing is, I have my 15x3.5 Pro Stars up front without any spacers and they fit fine

I always ran them with spacers, but when I put them on this time, I figured I would try it without the spacers, and sure enough it's fine..

Re: 275/60/15 questions

Looks great!

Be careful running without the spacers. There are two interferences, and one of them is the spring clip that holds the pad in the caliper. If your brake pads are worn, you may have more clearance than with a new set of pads, because the caliper is floating on the rotor. I buddy of mine thought he was fine without them, and one day the clip caught on the spokes and ripped the pad right out of the caliper, and messed the wheel up pretty bad.

I'd sure like to be able to run without the spacer.... to me it makes them stick out too far.

Re: 275/60/15 questions

Thanks!

When I first changed my rear pads and rotors, the first time I drove the car, the clips got broken right off. I put a new set of pads in, and trimmed the excess part of the clips with a dremel, and there haven't been any issues.

My front pads have a little meat left, but not much. I'll be replacing the pads/rotors soon...I'll let you know how it goes. If worse comes to worst, I'll just run with the spacers again...no biggie, although it does look alot better without them.

Re: 275/60/15 questions

You'll love the way the M/T Radials hook and the way they ride on the street. I run the smaller 255 50 R16s on 16x8 stockers and look at my consistent 60's in my sig...They just plain work fantastic. I was a BFG DR user from way back and these things put them to shame. I still run both sway bars and 16x8s all around (going for the sleeper look..)...You should 60' very well with the big and little set up you have....and your car looks very nice with those wheels...
