Talking 17x11's on 94 z28, will they fit ?

i've got a 94 z28 & want to install 17x11's on the back. i 've heard there is some work involved to make them fit. would like to know if this can be accomplished with minor inner fender reshaping, or is there alot more to it than that? also what tire size best fits the wheel, 335/35 or 315/35? i run autocross & currently run 17x9.5's with 275/40's all the way around. any help is appreciated.

They will fit w/o modification, but will fit A LOT better by "massaging" the inner wheel well with a "dead blow" mallot, and gently "curling" the fender lip to keep it from cutting into the tires when the suspension bottoms out. I've had them on my 93 Z28 for 6 years now, and my car is even lowered 1.5"...

You'll need to get somewhere around a 56mm offset for it to fit correctly. Check out the wheels section and you'll get a ton of info.

Welcome to CamaroZ28.com

Some introductory info... we have specific forums for specific topics. "Wheels" posts are best placed on the "Wheels and Tires" forum.

There is also a "search feature". The question you asked seems to get asked about once a week. If you look for the older posts, I know I have answerd this question in detail numerous times, including pictures of the clearances and required modifications.

Moving to "Wheels and Tires"......

This isn't necessarily true. Depends on the brand. Mine, for example, came with the proper offset that didn't require spacers...

The 4th gen 17x11 questions get asked an awful lot. Maybe we should add info about it to the FAQ.

Yep.... rather than type the answer yet again in a thread, I typed it in the FAQ. It's not complete, but its started. Let me know any comments you have.

Looks great! You covered all the important stuff.

All I can think of possibly adding would be:

- a mention of the fact that (contrary to a lot of info from wheel manufacturers) many people have installed the 17x11" +50mm wheels on convertables without any problems

- an explanation (like you gave here ) about the differences in hubs from the early- to late-4th gens. I didn't see that anywhere in the FAQ thread.

- and also perhaps mention (as we both have before) that modifying the jounce bumpers & brackets is a much better solution than simply removing them (as some people tend to do)
