17 x 11 inchers

ok guys, ive got a 95 formula, and its absolutely mint, and i dont wanna chop it up trying to get 315/35s on there, but ive got 2 SS wheels, and i figure i outta just buy 2 17 x 11s for the back. the question is, can you get away with puttin the 11s on the back with 315s without having to play with the bump stop or roll the fender? im plannin on buyin 50mm offset ones. ive got a guy that lives near me with a 96 ta that put them on his car and didnt do anything to it, and he said it only rubs if he goes over a big bump.

what do you guys think? injuneer?

I have the ZR1's that are 11 inchers in the back and I had a slight problem putting them on but some adjustments and tightening the lug nuts slightly untill the rim went on the hub did the trick. I also run Nitto 315's on the rims. No clearence problems, or rubbing!

Are you saying you basically forced the rim onto the hub by slowly tightening the lugs? Not a good idea. With the pre-1997 F-Bodys, its a common problem to have a tight fit on later model wheels, because of the oversize (0.03") hubs on the back of the early year 4th Gens. The correct sollution is lightly sanding the inside diameter of the wheel, not forcing them on the hub.

Whether the 11's fit with no interference is a crap shoot. You can avoid cutting the edge off the jounce bumper bracket if you simply remember never to jack the body and allow the axle to go to full drop, where the jounce bumper bracket will catch the inside edge of the wheel. To avoid rubbing on the inner fenders, choose a "narrower" 315 tire (not all 315's are the same "section width"... apparently the Nitto 315 drag radials are way narrower than other 315's.).

Some people bolt them on with no problems, others need a hammer.

Re: 17 x 11 inchers

17x9 all the way around is much better in my opinoin. From the experience i have had with the 17x11 i wouldnt do it again without a mini tub, and a wheel with the same offset as the front, so they look the same. I think the 17x11s make the car look sort of "goofy" because they stick out a bit more than the front ( not out of the fender, the fronts are just sunken in a bit more )

To each his own i suppose

Re: 17 x 11 inchers

I'll be putting 17x11's on my car. I thought about 18x10.5 but decided on the 17's. I know I'll probably have to use a hammer to bang the fender wall, and that is about it. When I finish that, I should be lowering it just about one full inch without any clearance problems. Injuneer's set up is pretty much how I want mine, and I'm pretty sure all he had to do is a hammer.
