Need a 10-bolt with 3.42s

I swapped a six speed in my car, & it is horrible off the line with the 2.73 rear. I'd rather buy a used rear than buy gears and pay for the install. Does anyone have one or know anyone who does? Or, if you are selling a car & want to swap rears before you sell it I'll throw in some cash & do the swap. I'll also reprogram the donor car for free.

Or, does someone want to sell their 3.43s? I'll throw in a new LT1_Edit/TunerCat cable as a bonus.

Question

Hey Steve what did you ever find out about your knock retard issues you were having way back when??? I remember you had them even with that racegas in the car on the dyno...Just was thinking about that and was hoping you got it taken care of.

Hey Ahart, is that $200 for the gears & install? I might go for that. Its no big deal for me to go to Abiliene...my brother goes to school there & my grandparents live there. How many sets of gears have you done? I'll probably be going through Abilene next weekend.

Just thought of something else...I have 2.73s right now, so I would need a new carrier right? Also, my posi is shot (170K miles), so I would like to get a new posi. Can you give me any help there?

Thanks!

Sounds good. The carrier has a good posi unit in it right? Sorry, I probably know less about posi units than any other part in the car. I have 170K on my current rear...any chance it'll need new bearings or anything?

Hey Bob...as for the knock issue I was having, I never completely figured it out, but I got it down to a manageable level. I think the retard I was getting on the dyno was false knock...due to my cutout or something. I did get real knock under low RPM/high load conditions. It still does it on really hot days.

I think what must have caused the problem was the intake leak I had. The first time I pulled the intake, some oil had been leaking into the intake ports. My pistons are probably covered in a thick layer of carbon. I think that would increase the CR slightly, & retain heat. At least that is my best guss at this point.

OK...I might try to make it to SA in the next month or two. If you have a buyer before then, don't worry about holding it for me. I'll probably take it though.
