South Bend, Indiana
Wow...just found this thread! Glad to see i'm still thought of around here. So lets set this straight, yes I sprayed Chris...he was catching up!!! And he should've been catching me since he has longtubes and after market heads. I have the weeny shorty headers and stock *** heads!!!
So, if we let our ET's and trap speeds speak for themselves...me 12.39 @ 108 Chris's 12.16@112 then it's easy to see who should win. But hey, i've been spanked enough times...so I sprayed'em, sorry Chris...LOL
Now, with the new LT4 heads, port matched intake, thinner head gasket, and longtubes, I'm thinking "NA", it should be a damn good race. With this "new" combo i'm thinking I should really improve upon my old best spray of 11.53@118. What'cha think Darren, low 11's?
Got to shout one out to Tony, how's it going?

Hey Greg how's it going?
I see your car is up for some modifications soon, that's awesome! I'm sure with your mods and a nice shot of spray high 10's are obtainable as long as you don't break the rear.
I haven't really touched any of my cars since i've been really busy with the new house, work, djing and getting my old house ready for rent. Hopefully soon ill have some free time to do some things that I need to do since everyone else is starting to catch up. I'll still be around in the summer time since I have every other Friday off and not to mention i'll be back because I have to dj on the weekends. We'll all have to get together!
Take care.

LOL Greg, I know you can't resist. The car doesn't leave the garage without a full bottle, it's like leaving naked. It's cool though, I'm glad to see my Dad's finally stepping up to long tubes! It's about time!!! I'll be back in town soon for spring break, we gotta get the group together.

Re: South Bend, Indiana
a buddy of mine named Rick in Niles fills bottles for cheaper than any of the shops around here. if you end up getting nitrous, shoot me a PM and ill give you his #. btw greg i talked to him the other day, said your spare bottle is still hanging out in his freezer
speaking of Dad... Greg i think i forgot to tell you that you have somebody at Coke beleiving you are really my dad. guy from the cooler dept said he met my dad when he got an MRI at the Lighthouse place. he thought i was BSing him when i said you werent really my dad. cought me off gaurd when he came up to me saying he met my dad, took a while for things to click
. you must have been convincing. btw... with a new set of slicks and the size shot i want you to run, im sure it would go 10s this year

Re: South Bend, Indiana
every stock LT1 shortblock deserves a 200 shot
im still thinking of putting another stock shortblock setup in my car for this year to shutup all the people who keep telling me it wont take a 250-300 shot for very long. still wish i would have kept the stock shortblock/6 speed combo in my firebird longer than i did to play with it. 10s NA and 9s on a lil 200 shot in street trim would have been easy with a few small changes

Re: South Bend, Indiana
LOL, you crack me up Darren. When I have the money i'm sure you'll talk me into a 200 shot...I'm not too hesitant. Hey, I got a question...I was reading that gmpp 1.6rrs are only rated to .575 lift. Is that true? I really wanted to do a GM847 this year, would i have to do new rockers too? Also will my springs support that cam? Just trying to make a pre-summer budget
Re: South Bend, Indiana
the springs on those heads are fine for that cam, but i would replace them when doing the cam swap since those ones have a decent amount of use on them, and the 847 will be near the limits of the pressure on those springs to start with. i would also strongly suggest Comp R lifters and a hydra-rev kit with that cam (hmm... ive got one of those for sale
). if you go with a cam like that, i would switch to non-self aligning rockers and go with a stronger rocker than the ones from the Hotcam kit.
of course if you wanted to you could just throw the 847 in there with all your current parts and it would work... but i prefer to put together combos that run up to their full potential and use parts that will be reliable, especially with something you drive as much as your car

Re: South Bend, Indiana
Thanks as always for your help Darren. I'm pretty sure that is what I'm going with this summer when the cash is rolling in again. I just want to put down 400rwhp NA before I spray it, and from most things I've read that should be easy with the 847 and your old heads.
Re: South Bend, Indiana
400rwhp shouldnt be a problem with the 847 and those heads and your other mods, as long as the converter doesnt eat up too much HP (we can lock it up on the dyno though to fix that if you want). cam swap, 58mm TB, new O2's, and a new tune and you should be stout. might want to think about a bigger converter or 3.73 gears with that cam. probably be best to just put it in there, see how it runs and go from there though. most likely will be kind of slow going till you get up to about 4500rpm in 1st gear. the cc306 in Derek's old combo didnt like his 3200 vig at all even with the 3.73's, really needed a 4000 stall or so
Re: South Bend, Indiana
Yeah, I was considering a bigger converter and gears, but I figured i could do like you said and just go with the cam and work my way up from there. I'm not a baller like you and able throw together a whole combo at once
But yeah with your help and advice I'd like to put together something that runs pretty well on motor, then spray it from there. I know you know how to build a sick stock shortblock motor.
